Hello all,

While troubleshooting another problem (post7789), we created another user in an XP Home box, and I renamed the old profile (under "Documents and Settings").
Once the problem appeared to be resolved, I needed to import the Outlook mailbox (pop3/ pst file). However, I did a search for 'pst' files, and the particular pst file I was looking for didn't come up. When I tried to go into the old profile, and rename it back we got the error 'Access Denied' - but it let me rename it in the first place??
Could this be why the pst file was not found? -ie: because I didn't have permissions to it? I did select to show hidden files...

I have now found that in XP Home, you can only log in as Administrator via Safe Mode. So I'll try to log into Safe Mode, and copy the pst file to the new profile.

Thanks.

change the permission by showing the security tab in XP Home (in Pro by default)

Here is how:
Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View and un-check Use Simple File Sharing.

thats because when you set up the account you set it to be password protected and for your files to be private. You have to take ownership of the folder. if you still have the old account go into it and than move whatever files you want to a folder directly on the root drive and than go into your other account and put them in...
