So I got a new phone, basically starting over. Looking for some useful android apps, for work, play and useful tools.

What are your must have android apps?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Light. (I don't want a big phone or an expensive one in my pocket. One of the best budget phones out there)

So far I got:
* Android lost (set of remote tools if you lose your phone)
* android-vnc-viewer
* Battery Doctor (ks Mobile)
* Smart Tools... like a compass, distance measure, unit converter, ruler, Bubble level, Magnifier, flashlight, Stopwatch etc)
* PDF tools, including Mobile Doc Scan.
* Lookout Security (it came with the phone.. seems okay)
* Zedge for ringtones/wallpapers etc
* Smart Voice recorder
* Note tools (take your pick.. Evernote I may use, not decided yet)
* Scanner Radio ( Gordon Edwards ) - Listen to live audio from over 4,100 police and fire scanners, weather radios, and amateur radio repeaters from around the world .
*QR Droid
*Newegg Mobile
* Wifi Analyzer
* SpeedTest

Any suggestions? I still gathering things.

That is a nice phone. Just got one for my wife, and might replace my Galaxy S2 with one, since I carry a nexus 7 in my pocket most of the time for most web stuff.

I would add kingsoft office for android. Word and excel compatible.
SMS backup + back up your text messages to your Gmail account.

I prefer Handcent for texts, but the stock one is OK, and I like swiftkey better than the stock keyboard.

Dolphin Browser will play flash websites,
Tapatalk for forum access.

My personal preference is to get rid of the Samsung and T Mobile programs and stick to the Google ones for everything else.

Prey, to help get it back if it gets lost or stolen.

That's prey, not pray.

You could try praying, but I doubt it'll help :D

PocketCloud Pro: Great App. Does both RDP and VNC.

ES File Explorer

I agree with Wi-Fi analyzer, don't forget a good flashlight app. Also the square app. Hook it to a bank account then you can run payments via credit card. I think it's only like 2.75% per transaction.

Also a nice little app called youmail. You can customize greetings. For example if you have people you don't want to talk to, you can even have it ditch their calls(automatically hang up on them), and even customize their greeting to say they've reached a number that has been disconnected. So in that case the app hangs up on them and does not allow them options to leave a message. But all kinds of greetings you can set.

I have my old trusty Galaxy Blaze that I have recently unlocked, rooted, reloaded.

So far my apps are:

Titanium backup - backup programs / data
Clockworkmod - backup whole phone.
AppExtractor - restore individual programs from clockworkmod backup.

LanDroid - for network functions.
Accuweather - for weather reports ect...
Scout - for navigation.
Wifi Analyzer - for wifi diagnostics help.

Im running ICS 4.04 still.

I keep it minimal.

*Touchdown for Exchange, by Nitrodesk. Best e-mail client out there for smart devices...very "Outlook" like. For Exchange server only...as name indicates. Blows away any phones default corporate e-mail client by miles and miles.

*Lync 2013....for our office communications.

*Flashlight...for digging down behind desks or wherever you need light.

*Compass...eh...not really useful I guess.

*ElectroDroid...for pinouts. Although all I really make are ethernet terminations and I have those memorized...never called up this app, but it's on there.

*FING...discover network...IP scan utility.

*FoxFi..this is my tethering app.

*Leo's RC Simulator. :) Playtime...best radio controlled plane game out there

*Google Maps

*BNI app

*mHelpdesk

*N-Central MDM (so I can track my phone, find it, wipe it, etc)

*N-Central Mobile app..access our N-Central server to do RMM stuff.

*MS One Note (similar to Evernote...just...the Microsoft way)

*Pocket Admin...was almost interesting bathroom reading once or twice, haven't use it since that first download.

*RD Client

*WiFi Analyzer

Out of those....I really only use a couple of them weekly (well, daily). Touchdown (email), Lync, mHelp.

WiFi analyzer barely a couple of times a year.
Same with Fing. And FoxFi.

I find remote desktop apps too small to be useful on a phone, so RD Client...think I used only once. Really much easier to whip out my laptop.

First make sure it is rooted. Light flow manages your phone LED so you can shut the sound off and know who just text or emailed or called you just by the color of the LED. phone fusion for voice mail and receiving faxes. Cam card to take a photo of business cards and have them converted into your contacts. And shop savy scan a bar code and it tells you the best price and where to get it.

Tasker is a huge app for just a one word recommendation. What do you use it for?

I have been using it for years, from muting when putting the phone face down, to switching to car mode when I plug the headset and 12 volt charger in, to showing a popup when I get a text from my partner or certain clients.

Also, I forgot Waze. Simply the best way to get around someplace like LA. Showed my routes and streets I didn't know existed.

Tasker is great.. another is auto ring. Auto ring allows you to set who can ring your phone and who goes to voice mail. At night you set your phone to silent and those on your white list can still ring through. Great for emergencies and I have a few clients that pay for 24/7 support
