I am just simply amazed. Every step of the way, Bell will lie to you or lie to their employees to that they give you the wrong information and overbill you on absolutely everything.
Some years ago I had Bell Canada for Expressvu, their satellite tv service. I had owed them 1 bill of $15 (I had the minimum package) and had gone on vacation for 5 1/2 weeks.
I came back to receive a bill of $267. My mouth dropped. I called them up and asked them to explain this bill. Get this: They said I was in "Err of $30 overdue" so they sent me to a collection agency and tacked on $150.00, + penalities, + taxes etc etc etc... Long story short after it was all said and one and I was paid (after much fighting, I wont' get into it).. many months later.. I went to re-activate my tv... Well they said, I'm sorry we cannot re-activate you because you have a "history" with us, until you leave a $150.00 deposit. Anyway-- I handled that by just getting their feed free at the time, I won't go into it, but I was perfectly willing to pay them until they screwed me twice.
Moving forward! After I had sworn off bell after that experience and for years, I had moved into a new place and had no choice but to go with Bell in order to have good speed as they don't allow the smaller isps access to their boxes in order to installed repeaters. Long story short I had no choice because of where I moved to (either that or suffer with 2 mbps internet). So I switched to them for my Phone and my Internet. Well that opened a new ball of worms right there..
They promised me a price including taxes and I got the reference #, the name of the employee, and a confirmation 3 times that he said it was tax in. I'm a very busy guy and I didn't check it... until 4 months later where I saw the whole time they were charging me PLUS tax. Fought with them again. Managed to get SOME of the $$$ back but not entirely and now I'm paying them plus taxes.
I'm on 16 mbps dsl and last week I upgraded my upload speed to 7 Mbps from 1 mbps because whenever I download at full pop nobody else here can browse (not enough for acking, qos etc..). Anyway, the agent on the other line told me it would be $5.00 to upgrade from 1 to 7. I thought, Fantastic!
Well not so! I just received a bill for $8.00 instead of $5.00. I called up Bell and asked them why I was charged $3.00 more?? They had removed my previous "rental fee" of $3.95 for the modem and replaced it with $6.95. The agent never told me there would be an increase at all, after all it's just $5.00! Anyway, the agent I just spoke to told me it was because I got "Value added features" now (the 7 mbps). I said to him, no, it is NOT value added. If you gave me an antivirus for free, then THAT would be value added. In this case, I am PAYING for the service. If you gave it to me free THEN it would be "value added." So he concedes this point.
In any case, he looks into it further and finds out that Bell is sending me a new modem. I never asked them for a new modem nor was notified that I would require a new modem. I tell him that's fine, but I'm only going to pay the $3.95 rental fee I had paid originally as the agent never indicated to me I would be paying additional fees.
He speaks with the accounting department, the technical department higher levels, etc.. It ends up that my current modem is capable of handling the additional upload speeds. They wanted me to pay for the new modem regardless or whether I needed it or not and I suspect it was an automated charge in the system to crossf**k their customers. So now I have to send back the new modem when it arrives AFTER I have tested successfully the new speed with my old modem and he will return the price to the original number.
I tell you! Bell is so corrupt it's not even funny! I can't believe how often they lie directly to you. It's crazy!!
