What do you guys think of R-studio's built in cloning module as opposed to ddrescue? Is one superior?

One of the most useful features of a good data recovery cloning program is the ability to log the sectors that you have and have not read. So, if you have to stop and restart the system, for whatever reason, you can pickup where you left off.

To the best of my knowledge, the only software cloning tool available that does this is ddrescue.

I keep asking for a general price for pc3000 and the deepspar products, but nobody is answering me. I know I can't afford it, so I don't want to contact the company, I'm just wondering.

PC3000 isn't even available for purchase right now (same all year, which is annoying since we've needed a second one for the last 6 months now). The new version they are making "PC3000 Express" will probably be around $15000 (with shipping, fees, and all features) but could be more. I'm not really sure (no one is since it's not released yet), the old version was around $13500 and I assume the new one will be more expensive.

DDI, like pc3000, has different features which can change price. I think around $4000 including shipping, fees, and all features is a good ballpark.

PC3000 with DE is about $7000

Must be cheaper in Canada. ? Why do I feel like I paid almost double that. It was a few years ago, maybe the price dropped before they stopped selling the old version?

I paid about $15,000 for both of my systems...so, you aren't losing your mind. However, when AceLaboratory took over the support for North America, they made a major price adjustment. I'm not sure what we will see for the upcoming PCIe version, when it officially hits the market.

I got my DDI last year. I was quoted for DDI and PC3K close to what lcoughey have posted. I don't think we're allow to say the exact amount.

Don't forget the additional annual cost.

What is PC3000 Express? First time I heard this.

So just got word from Deepspar guys (who sell PC3000 for North America) and they confirmed Luke's post: the $15k price is old. Now, the current price for PC3K + DE is ~$7k. Pretty crazy. DDI is $3,350 for the standard kit.

Thanks for the responses guys. Much obliged.

Random question from left field, do you guys do any kind of recoveries for law enforcement ever? Our local enforcement has to send anything computer related far away and pay out the nose for it, it could actually prove to be a cottage industry of its own around here.

I get law enforcement here frequently. As opposed to charging them more, I give them discounts...especially for active cases.

It should be noted that law enforcement can handle most of the level 1 projects and they come to us to help handle drives that they cannot read. It usually involves changing heads and PCBs, as well as some firmware issues. We do our best to get the drives to a state where they can clone the drive themselves or we just get the best clone possible for them to work with. We don't get into file system recoveries for their criminal case.
