wow looks like we have a nice little debate going on lol, the problem ended up being that the driver wasnt loaded for the sata drive, so i used nlite to slipsteam the driver into the windows xp disk. Once i did that i had trouble redoing the boot for vista since the xp install overwrites that. I had to use easybcd to rewrite the vista bootloader and that let me boot into vista. Then in order to let my computer boot so i could choose xp or vista i had to use easybcd again to create a entry for xp in the vista bootloader and by the way i couldnt load any form of linux as i had said earlier in the post.
