I got a call this morning from a customer saying that once again her screen is black and when she shines a light on it she can see what's on the screen. A little over a week ago I replaced the inverter and kept the computer an extra 2 days doing a virus removal. The screen had no problems what so ever and was working when I brought it back to them. She said she has not used it all since I brought it back and yesterday she went to use it and when turning it on the screen never lit up.

So now I need some help, I know there is a chance that the new inverter was bad, but now I am leaning towards the ccfl being bad and needing to be replaced. I am going to pick it up again later today and would love some suggestions.

A bad CCFL can kill a NEW inverter in a week or less. I've seen it happen myself. But of course be sure she isnt seeing a new problem.

Thanks jimbo that's exactly what I was thinking, just needed sine reassurance :D

Im about to pick it up and ill find out if its the same thing.

Picked it up and sure enough same problem. Left her a loaner laptop and transfered some documents so she can work.

Would it be possible to exchange this inverter for another one?

Just curious, how does a bad ccfl kill an inverter? I am not being a smart ass, I wasn't aware that it could. My understanding of how it all works must be somewhat off. I thought the ccfl backlight was just like the ccfl's in your ceiling lights, when they are bad the gas in the tube has 'run out' so to speak.

I would like to know this too. Thanks NYJimbo

A bad CCFL puts a huge draw on the inverter until it damages it, usually the transformer first, but without ripping it apart you cant be sure what died on it.

Quick update and another question. I got the laptop in, took it apart, and found out the power cable going into the inverter had came out. I pushed it back in and reassembled the laptop. Everything was good, I got a text last night from the same customer saying the screen was black again. I am going to pick it up tonight but I imagine the power cable has come out again.

So this is pretty embarrassing for me but I have no idea why it came out twice. When I put it back together I made sure the cable had all of the slack it could and that it wasn't hung up anywhere. I also opened and closed the lid a few times, and moved the laptop around to make sure it wasn't going to come out again. If it did come out again, any one have any suggestions to make it stay plugged in?
