I've got a hp 15-e016nr laptop that needs a power jack repair old one was obviously beat up bad so i ordered a new one. problem is when i connect the jack to the laptop and then test it with the power cord the indicator light on the jack blinks on for about half a second. The laptop doesnt seem to be getting any power. I've ordered and tested this is another jack (from the same seller on amazon) and same issue. Also have tried 3 different power cables to no avail.

My question here is, should I look to order a new jack from a different seller in hopes that I'm just unlucky. Or could this be a motherboard issue of some sort?

Do you have a voltmeter/multimeter ? If so check the points on the mobo to see if voltage continues to come in after the light goes off. Does the charger have a light ? If so does it remain on when you plug it into the laptop or does it go out too ?

If you do not have a meter, get one, even a cheap one for $20. All you have to learn is how to check for low DC voltage and continuity. If you learn just those two things you can do so much when testing a laptop. Many techs get intimidated with electronics, but in the case of laptops you only need to know how to do those two things and you can diagnose tons of issues. You wont be able to get deep into laptop diags without more electronics knowledge, but I promise you just learning those two things will pay off immediately.

Have you tired a different charger? You can have a charger produce voltage with little current that will light the plug LED but as soon as you turn it on or it kicks on the charging circuit the voltage drops off to nothing. Also don't trust the wall cords either. We've had several of those wall plugs fool us recently. I don't think we've ever seen a defective power cord until this year and we've seen probably half a dozen.

Is there an led on the power brick itself? If so, does it go out when you plug in or power on the laptop? This is indicative of a mobo problem. Also, check the hot pin (dead center) to one of the mounting legs of the port. You should read usually around 19.5 vdc.

I don't have a multimeter but ill get one, just told client the motherboard is dead and offered a small discount on a new machine in addition to data transfer (if possible) from the old HDD to the new one.

And yes I have tried with 3 different chargers.
