Post Your Pictures Of Your Shop or Store Front

I guess its a space thing thing. We have bench space for 8 pcs (the lappys have a seperate area), and have 1 KVM setup connected to all computers. If we used individual setups it would take twice the space, space we dont have in the workshop area!

In regards to forgetting about things, our tracking software takes care of that potential issue.

I think you miss understood the forgetting other computer issues. When you have 30+ tickets open at any given time and you have several computers hooked up via KVM, its not hard to forget a couple of those computers for a few minutes and not click on "ok" to run the next set of updates (that will take 30 minutes) or what ever else needs to be done. Keep in mind, 1 minutes now can save you 30 minutes later. Then again, it really depends on your work load. If you are only working on a few computers at a time, then it's not hard to keep looking at your ticket system every once in a while to make sure that you are keeping track of things, but it becomes a bit harder when you are swimming in computers . . . I feel that way right now in fact.

Anyways, I do not want to get off track from the topic, but everyone has their own way of doing things. Some people are very efficient with KVM switches, I personally have way too many computers to forget about to use KVM switches any more.

That's a heck of a lot of counter space, do you really get that many people in at once for that much ? How many people do you have working the floor during the day ?

Just 2 working, the table in the back left of center is where we do checkins. What looks like counter space is really just glass cases I put laptops in. The cases came with those fillers that I will eventually replace with cases. I've had good luck buying a lot a cheap glass cases from cell stores (att, centennial, alltel) doing remodels and change overs.

I put all my laptops in cases so people can see them, but cannot touch unless I pull one out. I keep stock levels tight and fluid and do not buy models to put on display to let people beat on them.

I setup my bench with KVMs a bit differently. I opted to get several 2 port KVMs, so each monitor is centered between 2 stations. I have a total of 14 stations on 7 monitors. When the volume is low, I keep one computer per monitor. As the volume increases, I start doubling up. I also have 2 stations dedicated to laptop and electronic repairs where I have my hot air station and other tools setup. This is all setup in a 12x12 room with the workbenches going around the entire room except at the doorway, so it's easy to take a quick glance around and see the status of each system.

Nice show room. Just wondering how much is your overhead?

Quite low actually, this is my 2nd location, my first location is 1500 SF and I I was able to negotiate the price down to 1200 a month for my lease renewal. When looking for my 2nd location I was looking buy. I looked at several properties in the city limits and taxes alone were $650 a month. I bought this place outside of the city limits and my payment plus property taxes are around $550 a month. It is 4500 SF, between a bowling alley/golf course/restaurant and the new high school in town. The owner of the golf course and bowling alley mows the grass and plows the snow and won't let let me pay him. The only thing I have done for him is replace a bios battery in the last year. It is insulated up the wazoo, on 95 degree days it never gets above 75 degree with no AC. Even when I am paying to heat it in the winter it is still cheaper than my first location.

i agree with you on this one too, having kvms seem to let you forget about machines being worked on if the screen isnt right in front of your eyes

Here goes...

Where did you get the hooks in this picture that have the price label bar above the hook ?

Thanks
James

This past December I opened my retail front. Here are few pics... Enjoy. The xbmc box is for displaying tech videos and in store advertising not for watching transformers all day unless i am demoing an HTPC setup. I started out in my garage in June 2010 and 2 years later I am very excited with where my business is going.

We are in the process of remodeling and expanding our retail space. I'm between a rock and a hard place at the moment though. I planned on getting the new addition mostly finished and move everything over there (it has its own door) while I worked on the old spot, and took down the wall that separates them when they were both mostly done.

However, the layout of the building and my design idea means the front counter, along with some of the architectural elements of the new front room, need to be right in the middle of the dividing wall. I hate to have the entire storefront destroyed for an extended period of time, because that looks trashy in my opinion, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do it halfway.

I'd love to see more storefront pics. I'm going for a cleaner look with mine (I love yours, PCX) but at the same time I want to expand my merch selection and start selling new computers as well.

If I remember I'll post pics of what I have, along with floor plans for the addition tomorrow.

Here's what we have now. Horribly in need of a refresh.

Looking towards the front door.

Front counter with its hideous countertop. Can't wait to rip this out.

Front door looking over towards the counter & merch shelf. The desk is for displaying used computers when I have some available, otherwise it holds extra merch and plants.

The building was formerly a doctors office and it shows. We're in the process of renovating the building, and part of that will involve removing some walls and more than doubling our store-front/retail space. I can't wait to get that project finished.

New Store Front

I am opening my new store front Oct. 1st 2012. YEA!! Been in biz for 6 years and taking this step. I will get some pics up soon. I am very influenced by PC Exchange colors and setup! So don't hate me for being similar. think of it as a inspiration to others :)

Same as my company colors and love the simplicity.

Well, I might as well post an update on our shop. We have expanded our retail and the shop looks completely different now. I tried to do the panoramic shots, but with such a small space, they did not come out well. None the less I am going to post them. Also, the flash does not work properly, so I apologize for the poor lighting.

As soon as I get the new sign up, I will also post pictures of that as well.

EDIT: Added pictures of the actual work area here

Love the look there PCX!!

Hoping to have the store I moved to in Jan finished shortly (still making some major changes), then our 2nd store is slated to have the paperwork FINALLY done in the next week or two, I'll post some before/afters of that too.... a little nervous about it, but it should do well.

Yeah man, I can't wait to see the pictures of your store! Congrats on the growth BTW!

it needs a lot of work still, (mostly just adding more laptops to inventory, and improving the counters a bit for the addition of a 3rd POS unit.
But somedays we are just so swamped that it's enough just not getting behind lol, and cashflow is always the chief issue.
