Hi all. I've got a client's new Dell Inspiron 13" 7352 2in1 notebook running Windows 10 that keeps going back to the login screen when not touched after 30 seconds. Changes to the power schemes, sleep and other settings are ineffective. I've flashed the BIOS (A03 to A07) and made sure to wade through the relevant updates but found nothing. Dell was no help. No Google results show up, nor any from this forum. Ideas? As always, thanks in advance for your input.

Netplwiz? I'll try it and report back. (thought I did that one...)
Yes. And did you measure the idle time interval? Is it exactly 30 seconds or just after a short while. And speaking of time did you look at the event viewer to see if there are any hints?

Well, did that and nothing. Made sure to enter the correct password twice to "not" require a password and... Boom. It wants a password again. Grrr.

Tried to setup a new profile and got this error: X:ksdlfkjsldkfjlskdjflskdjfl "no mapping between account names and Security IDs was done."
Not sure what's going on here.

I can't provide any guidance on looking at the logs as this is a symptom I've never seen in any OS. That's why I mentioned getting times. You can search the logs by the time.

But the problem of not being able to create a new account indicates there is something else. I'd try to see if there are prior restore points to load. What version of W10? Domain? If it's not a big deal I'd probably just do a backup and then nuke and pave. You can spend hours trying to fix corrupted security problems.

Maybe try running various tools like Tweaking's AIO tool

It takes 1 minute to go dark and 10 more seconds to go to locked screen. I hear you about security settings. To me they're worse than repairing system files for sure. Win 10 version is build 10.0.10240. I'll give the AIO tool a try. Thanks Mark.

Lots of different errors but not one I recognize. What source or error code should I be looking for?
Who knows but if you post some examples we might see something. Note the time when it logs out and then post any errors at that timestamp.
X:ksdlfkjsldkfjlskdjflskdjfl "no mapping between account names and Security IDs was done."
Is it literally that or are you just typing gibberish? Hard to help if you can't report an accurate error message.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this correctly but maybe the client was messing around with their screensaver settings. I've seen this in Win 8, not sure about Win 10. Check them out anyway. It sounds like the wait time might be set to 1 minute. Also uncheck "on resume, display logon screen."

Your other issue sounds like a corrupted profile. Did you rename the user or create a new account and copy over the folders?

Sorry to have responded so slowly, but I've been busy with other work, but do appreciate your responces.

Yes, that was gibberish because the string of numbers and letters was at least twice as long as that and didn't appear significant. I (mistakenly?) thought they were not as important as the message.

Now, for the windows logs at the time stamp under Applications, I am getting this error:

Faulting Application name: mmc.exe, version 10.0.10240.16384, time stamp: 0x559f3976

Also getting this warning:

The description for Event ID 4 from source TrueColorALS cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on you local computer of the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the dislplay information had to be saved with the event.

I'm guessing that the event you posted is for the time stamp of the logout. So mmc.exe is calling kernelbase.dll which causes the problem. I looked around and several with similar problems, kernelbase.dll problem, have created a new user account, as @mr m mentioned, which seemed to solve the problem. But you mentioned you tried that. How did you do that? Via Start Button>Settings>Accounts? Did you try launching a CLI, run mmc, then add Local Users and Groups to add the new account?

Actually the screen saver is set to "None".

Just finished running Tweaking.com tool that you suggested (which found errors). On reboot, it problem persists. Yes, I did go into Accounts as you suggested and that's when I got the funky error. Sorry, Mark. CLI?

CLI = Command Line Interface (in M$ land that is a DOS window). Just do a search for cmd and launch it. Type in mmc and hit return. This link tells you how to add a snap-in. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722035.aspx You are looking for something like Local Users and Groups. To be honest I'm not thinking it will work as mmc.exe failed in another scenario. But it never hurts to try different things.

Thanks again Mark. I'll give that a try. BTW, creating another account worked. Plus one to you sir.

P.S. Actually if you had said cmd or DOS, I would have understood instantly, Yes, I'm that old. My first experience with computers was to learn BASIC! :p
