Hi All,

I have a machine with a peculiar Outlook 2007 problem.

Outlook is setup with three accounts:
xyz1@q.com
xyz2@q.com
xyz3@q.com

When I start the machine from either a cold boot or a reboot and open Outlook - only ONE account appears in "Mail Folders": xyz3@q.com. BUT it appears twice: xyz3@q.com and xyz3@q.com(1). There are no messages listed at all (no sent, nothing in the inbox, etc).

If I then close Outlook and start Outlook again (without rebooting the system), all three accounts appear, function normally and the Mail Folders contain appropriate messages.

When it only shows the one account, there are NO accounts listed in "Account Settings / E-Mail", but there are data files listed on the "Data Files" tab.

I'm rather at a loss as to why Outlook does not load the accounts properly the first time it's started, but works just fine if restarted.

Any ideas?

Just out of curiosity, does it matter how long after booting that you open Outlook?

It seems as if some of the necessary services aren't started the first time you run the client, but opening Outlook the first time forces the computer to run the services so that it works the next time...

maybe corrupt accouting settings in registry

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook

Does it work right away in safe mode?

No, it doesn't matter whether I open it immediately or wait an hour.

I too thought a service might be the problem - perhaps one set to "manual" rather than automatic and therefore not kicking in until Outlook is started (and therefore too late for Outlook to use at first run). But I wasn't able to identify any specific services that might cause this problem.

That's a good question - I'll have to find out. Sometimes I get caught up in an odd issue and forget to try the basics!

Create a new profile and specify it as the default. Now use that profile to setup the email again and test from there. The old settings will still be in the old profile just in case. Also, the original PST files can be added back in and associated with the accounts in the new profile.
