PC Repair Tracker

First post outside of Introductions. I sent an email about a month ago to request a test drive of PC Repair Tracker and never got a response.

I have joined ARCBO last night and willing to spend but still need to test drive it first.

I hope folks over at PCRT see this because I'm sick and tired of MyITCRM, which worked well for a long time but it's time to get something better. From what I hear, PCRT is the thing.

Back onto the broader subject of PCRT...

I finally got around to doing some work on it over the last few weeks;

1. set up a colour scheme that I dont hate... It took a bit of messing about as the styling interface is quite arcane, but now I have appearance that Im happy to live with ... the new 'flat' stylesheet helped with this.

2. set up the 'online bookings' system on my website, so now clients can book themselves in. Mainly I did this because I dont have time these days to field the number of customer queries coming through and Im quietly hoping that some will avail themselves of this system to save me some time entering the data myself... fingers crossed...

3. set up the 'repairstatus' interface so customers can chek the progress of their repairs. Actually someone made use of it the first day it was live on the site (yesterday) so if thats any indication, hopefully there's scope from that for less phone calls for me to have to manage.

All of the setup was pretty straightforward, and 2&3 integrated easily with my wordpress site with the help of an "iframe" plugin. For anyone interested, this aspect was also a no-brainer;

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/iframe/

While I was doing this stuff I asked Luke a couple of emails and got helpful responses within 24 hours.

Yeah. Awesome software. Excellent support.

Even if these features only save me 5 or 10 mins a few times a week, that all adds up and means more time to be doing billable hours.

Yup! I got a PM rightaway. I must have deleted his email :D

Looks awesome but made me dizzy. Will need a few minutes and a few breaks to get used to it.

Was this easy to setup? Is there a tutorial out there that helps walk through this?

There is also a repairstatus folder. This contains a simple script to allow your customers to check the
status of their repairs. Only upload this folder if you wish to use this feature. You can place this folder
anywhere on your website, separate from the main PC Repair Tracker Installation. You must edit the settings
in the deps.php file in this folder for the script to work. Some fairly empty header and footer files are also
provided so that you can customize it with your own websites template to make it integrate nicely. There is also
a separate stylesheet. You must also specify the location of these scripts in the repair/deps.php file.

There is a new "servicerequests" folder. You can add this to your website to accept service requests from your
visitors. This is much like the repairstatus folder, it has some empty header and footer files that you can use for your
template or you could insert this in an iframe in your website. You will also need to configure your database settings
in the deps.php file in this folder. There are other options that will need to be configured as well. There is
a throttling mechanism that limits the number of submissions by IP address over X number of days that can be
altered. There is also a captcha that can be optionally configured. I would probably recommend using the captcha
if you use the sms notification. Also do not forget to set your oncall user for each store in the settings menu.

For some reason I could not get servicerequests to work from the subdomain I run pcrt on. However when I put the folder onmy main site, it worked fine.

All thats required is that you edit the deps.php in both folders

They come with black backgrounds (no idea why) so if you want them to display well on your site, also edit the header files.

Hope that helps.

We just got PCRT at my shop and so far we love it. Before we were using a old Access database and quickbooks, while I was fine with it after many years of using it, I found it hard to train new people to use it. PCRT is so easy to use there's hardly any questions anymore. I was dreading the setup but to my surprise it didn't require much outside of editing the dep files. I got both the online check ins and the repair status check up with little difficulty.

I setup a computer for customers to enter their information into the online check in form in our shop so it makes it more painless for us. We were getting too many wrong phone numbers before so that would hopefully eliminate that issue. Also people enter their address and email without us asking which was always hard for us to get in the habit of.

Best part about the pcrt is that people who were bad at leaving notes before are kind of forced to do so now so now everyone is in the loop.

Can you still get PCRT

I emailed about this software but i have had no reply yet, is the software still supported and updated, can you still get it?

Yes, and yes. Community support is provided via a forum from other purchasers and the developer, and new versions are typically released every 4-6 months.

Yes.

You probably used wrong email or it went astray

Luke is usually impeccable at following up

That said, he's just one guy so don't know how much time you have allowed, but he could just be tied up atm

1. It's written in PHP and you own that version out right. Tweak to your heart's content.
2. You'll find that on the ACRBO site.
3. Yes. When Luke gets back to you, he can set that up.

G'day,

Did you integrate a online booking system with PCRT or just via your website.?

Thanks

There's an iframe on the website that has the online booking form on it

It has saved me some time, and I get regular bookings through it.

J

How does the booking get recorded in PCRT?

I have contacted Luke a while ago about possibly having an option similar to the the submit request form where the customer can also make an appointment for onsite, workshop or remote repair. He said that it take a fair bit of coding to incorporate that into PCRT. I currently take online bookings via a form and then have to manually enter that info into PCRT. I would be very interested to see a demo of how you achieved this, well done.
