I am looking for a microcutting paper shredder and have boiled it down to either the Royal or Casemate. What do you recommend? They are both the same price. The Royal is more aesthetically pleasing to me.

Edit: the Royal is my favorite. It's quieter and looks better.

I would like to use a good crosscut shredder, but a lot of invoices these days come as stickers/ sticky-back labels, etc., and that gums everything up and makes a mess when it goes through the cutters.

On design alone, my choice would be the Casemate because it has a pull-out wastebasket. I have a similar style shredder myself, made by Swordfish, that I've had for for about 5 years now. The Royal looks like the lift-off type design. Had a few like that previously. Messy to empty. Didn't like them.

I think the only way to know which one is better is to buy them both and test them out. Walmart = 90 day return policy :)

Whatever you end up buying will need monthly maint.. Yes, I've worked on shredders also. Go to a store which sells sewing machines and pick up a bottle of sewing machine oil. Depending on how often you use your shredder, you should saturate a couple of sheets of paper with the oil and run them thru the blades. Believe it or not, keeping the wheels (blades) clean and lubricated will help to keep them sharp.

And if you get a paper jam on one side or the other, take the unit apart, clear out the jam (best you can), re-assemble and re-lubricate.

Your shredder will last longer and you will be a happy camper!

Excellent advice! Maintenance is vital for longevity and top performance :)

Shredder sheets sound much more convenient. This one comes with 12 sheets which would be good for at least 1 year: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nuova-SP12-Shredder-Sharpening-and-Lubricant-Sheets-12-Count/46699352
