Problem: all of todays emails are gone.

Cause: pst file replaced while transfering files and settings from old laptop to new laptop,

The emails from today that were deleted are not in the deleted items in outlook or desktop. Does anyone think a system store would fix this? Or is there any way to undo my stupidity and recover that overwritten pst and data files?

System restore will only restore the settings for windows.

What you say that the PST was replaced while transferring files do you mean you transfered from a different computer into the computer you currently work which had the PST with the e-mails?

If that is the case you may not be able to get you file unless you backed them up.
You can try a data recovery app to see if you can recovery anything. Its 50/50 and the reason would be that the new file was placed in the same location where the old file was at (in the hard drive) and that caused to be over written. Over written files are hard to recover. But its work a try.

Contact your e-mail service provider and see if they can repost them for you. They still have them even though you don't see them. Unless it is your ISP, they may refuse to do it. There is no insentive for free e-mail service providers to do anything extra.
