Hey guys. I got a little problem here. I've got a client that had a WHOLE BUNCH of issues. I ended up having to reimage the system, and repair ms office. When Outlook 2007 opens now, it has all the settings and asks for the email login, but then it posts an error that it cannot find outlook.ost in the defualt folder. So i went to the default folder, and lo and behold it is sitting there nice and pretty.
Then after clicking ok, it just closes.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks In Advance.

Deleting the existing OST and allowing Outlook to re-create it should do the job. OSTs don't need to retained so long as the client has access to the Exchange server.

If you're nervous about deleting it just move it out of that folder.

OK, so what function does the OST serve?
The Client told me she has an elaborate systems of folders and rules that she doesn't want to loose. Will deleting the OST affect that at all?

What is OST file?

OST is the abbreviated form of Offline Storage Table files of MS Outlook. Offline folders allow the users to work offline i.e. in the absence of Exchange Server and then synchronize the changes later when they connect with the Exchange Server. The capability of working offline, that these OST files offer, is ideal for environments having limited or unreliable network connectivity. This feature of OST files allows a user to work in Server downtime situations too.

Ok Y'all
Thank you very much for your insight. I'll let you know how it goes for others that night have this problem in the future (not that they would search the forum anyway)

I have always had great luck with repairing outlook files but I make sure I have a copy before the attempt.

I am sure everyone here knows MS has the repair utility's in the outlook folder.

True but if it's server based and not too massive you might as well just let it resync with the server. Guaranteed results :)
