OK - in previous threads there has been a lot of discussions of how the PC is dying and we, as computer service centers, are going away. Well - before I was laughing at everyone saying that. BUT when I came in our south store to open it this morning I found out it is true.

I walked in and noticed a vase was broken on the floor by the check-in counter. I am thinking lazy techs (as me) didn't even pick it up when they broke it last nite before they went home. As I look around some more, I find the break room door closed (always left open) and the hall door wide open (always locked) I looked in the hallway and the back store room door was wide open where we store 100s of parts computers (always closed).

Finally my brain starts working and saying something isn't right. Then I notice a gaping hole where a window was yesterday. We were broken into. Now here is the strange part. There was over $300 in the cash register, probably 20 finished laptops and desktops, more than 5 tablets and LOTS of parts and accessories along with over 40 computers waiting for repair..

We are next to the Radio Shack. They did not take a single thing from us - but they were determined to get into RS. They didn't get into them.

Bottom line - we feel hurt they didn't want any of our stuff.

PROOF POSITIVE THAT PCs ARE DEAD;)

I dont think thats proof at all.

How many desktops/ laptops can you carry out of a store compared to cell phones? Besides, The resell of the cell phones probably gains them more money then laptops and desktops.

They wanted RS for the cell phones is my thought.

Cell phones are worthless when stolen.. Each one is accounted for by the EIN/Serial and RS would report them each as stolen. Good way for the peeps to get pinched.

If that were really true then there wouldn't be any market for them. Reality is so long as the bill is paid most cell companies do little to prevent stolen phones from getting back on the network. They can block but choose not to.

Probably a good time to suggest that an alarm system would be a good investment. What would you do if your clients' system were to be stolen? How would you be able to ever compensate them all for their lost data?

He doesn't have too, he isn't responsible for it under the law. Only the physical machine itself.

The OP said it himself, $300 in cash and several tablets / laptops ready to go. It would be very easy to carry out a few thousand dollars worth of this stuff. Not saying you wouldn't get more looting radioshack, but it was easy money they left lay.

I'd deff have a security system in place if I ran a business.

am i the only one who thought ....."over 40 PCs waiting for repair" = lazy barstewards get some work done (joking)

Most likely they were disturbed (and not just in the head), sorry to be bearer of bad news but if they were they will be back now they know what you got and how little security in the store so time to ramp up store security.
