Opinion's Needed About video cards...

I have a customer that's wants to buy a used video card from me for gaming but I don't know which one is better? Here are the two cards, Thanks for any help..

For comparisons of GPUs and CPUs I always hit the Passmark site:

The GT 240 is waaay faster than the 9500 GT which is really getting long in the tooth.

toms hardware is one of the best resources anywhere for GPU benchmark comparisons IMO

They both suck, but the gt 240 is gonna be the better performer. Trust me this is one of the areas that I'm very confident in.

You can always tell the guys who have little or no experience at all in running a business.

It sounds to me this guy is going to invest time figuring out the best video card to find out the customer wants a cheap used video card for $25 or he is going to want you to sell it to him for the price he finds at new egg or tiger.

This is why I do not support gamers at all, unless he is the managing partner of one of my business client/ law firms and I am generating enough income to make up for my loss on time and effort to find him the right video card.

Yeah I get these type of calls from time to time. I will give them a couple minutes of my time and answer a couple questions. I then usually ask them if they try to work on things themselves. The answer is always yes. I then tell them what I charge and that's usually enough that they probably won't want an appointment, but at the same time I gave them a minute or 2 of my time, so if they ever need service for something they can't fix than maybe I can help them.

But yeah, this type of job is probably a time waster unless the guy goes with your recommendation and realizes that your price won't be as cheap as newegg/amazon.

I love building my own systems, but had a time when some one challenged a price on a part because they went on newegg and found a part for less than my markup, so I get a call asking about that. Just like hello I have time researching parts, going to get it, warranty etc. I am not a free service I have to make a living. I fix things, a few weeks later get a call on Christmas Day asking advice. Don't people understand we are not a friend to friend relationship we are a business to client relationship. I charge for my services. Even if doing gaming systems I prefer dealing with users who have no idea what they are doing. The annoying users are the ones who know enough to be dangerous. I am thankful for their business but its like why don't you just bring it in to begin with?

Without going into too much, whats your profit on selling an old cheap video card to a "gamer" ? Do you know what this gamer needs from a video card ? Ask them what kinds of games they are into and then find out what those games need, if your card doesn't support them don't even think about making a sale.

Agree with the above. And for a gamer the lowest card I would recommend is probably something like an amd radeon 7750 or 7770. Nvidia side gtx 650 or 650 ti and above. Also tell them these are entry level cards and let them know if you want to game these are really the cheapest cards they should be looking at. I don't think you'd be out of the ballpark at about 130 or so for the 7750, maybe 140. Also I would say look at their power supply and if applicable recommend an upgrade to that also if applicable.

Edit. Also be sure to test that video card before sending it out. I'm relatively comfortable with used ram and used CPUs not sure on video cards but I guess you'd be ok.

Not really.. maybe for ultra settings. I built my system with a 6770 and it plays everything I've thrown at it on high just fine.. diablo 3, cs:go, bf3, lol, etc..

Most "gamers" just want to play wow or lol which will run on just about any video card out there.

Try the 6770 then try a card like a 7850 or 7870. There is a difference when you start talking 1080p and full anti aliasing etc. That said I see what you are saying my old gts 450 ran almost all my games fine, but I wanted to upgrade partially for the sake of upgrading. But that said, the lowest I'd really want to recommend is like a 7750. You don't want to sell them a card and have them be disappointed. It's better I think for the user to have lower expectations and when things perform well they are happier and you look better.
