Old Mac Keyboard says it needs to be charged

I have an elderly client with an older All in One Mac with a wireless keyboard that the OS keeps popping up that it needs to be charged despite the batteries being replaced twice. The keyboard isn't rechargeable.

Any ideas why this would start happening?

Look in the Bluetooth control panel on the Mac and see if there are any other keyboards paired. The message may be about a different keyboard.

If that's not it try un pairing and re pairing the keyboard to the Mac.
