I used to dread getting clients to www.fastsupport.com. Now it is an easy process. We implemented 2 things to make the process smooth. As you all know, half the battle is getting them to the address bar. As suggested here by another member, we have the customer press Ctrl-L to get the cursor in the address bar. The second thing we did was bought a 4 character domain with 3 numbers and one unambiguous sounding letter(w), we have the domain forwarded to www.fastsupport.com

The best thing we ever did :-)

I also did not know this one.

What I use to do was tell them WINKEY+R and type the address but of course this uses the default browser which in some cases isnt what i want them to use.

Glad you got that , but Interesting way to get backlinks to your site. Its a bit obvious that's what your doing, maybe not intentional, and I mean no offense either way. But it is against the forum rules.

If you're talking to the OP thats not his domain thats the gotoassist domain.

Edit: Oh if you mean my "computer technician" ill remove that, it holds almost no link weight

I was talking to the OP, and I obviously just put my foot in my mouth. Apologies to the OP.

am i missing something here? if your clients struggling to goto fastsupport why not just integrate a form into your own website where client enters name & the gotoassist code. or have they stopped allowing that to work?

well that the way we used to do it when used gotoassist for remote.

Getting them to your website is usually just as difficult. He is probably talking them through it over the phone.

There is a surprising amount of people that have absolutely no idea how to visit a URL. They think the appropriate way to go to www.domain.com is to type it into a search engine site, toolbar, or search box at the browser.

very true but then again no matter what your still going to have that same problem no matter the domain.

also couple things come to mind.
i) allot will actually be on your website homepage
ii) if they unable to follow the instructions and use search instead there allot more chance of your domain name being listed (never mind listed as first) than some generic domain name which may or may not be even in search.
iii) if all else fails it easier with some to just email them the link.

but at the end of the day it whatever method that someone gets working easiest with their clients is all that matters no matter what it is.

3 numbers and the letter 'w' is much easier than typing a longer domain. It makes a huge difference in the typo factor. Less characters means less mistakes plus numbers and the letter 'w' are completely unambiguous.

If you do remote support invest in the $10 / year on a domain. It was the best thing we ever did

Edit added later //

Four numbers would have been ideal(easier for clients) , but those domains are unavailable.

I want to chime in here. I used to have a short domain name dedicated to my remote support site because it was difficult to get people to type in my domain. I changed back to my normal site with the remote form built in.

My reasoning was that if I am telling people my domain and getting them to go to it then they will remember MY website and each time they get support they get my name burned into their minds. With the short domain I was making it easy but with my normal domain it is very little work advertising. My hope is that it will be easier for them to come back to my site and browse around at a later time.
