New UVK - Ultra Virus Killer build

I like UVK, i'm currently inspecting all the aspects now. The ability to re size the window would be appreciated, as some labels on buttons are cut off on the ends (see screenshot), and side-scrolling the start-up entries can get annoying.

Good job!

I had never seen it do that before. You must have the personalized text size too big on Display settings. Plase try changing it to normal and say if it still does it.

Thanks.

Yes, but only for current user. In fact this fix deletes all deletable keys and values under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

And then runs Ie twice for five secconds to recreate the default keys.

Basically IE and internet settings are set as if you created a new user.

Here's a good hint: If you use the Reset IE and Internet settings fix, then go to the Startup entries tab.

On Internet explorer start pages section, select the entry Start Page, click the Delete entry button and confirm. Do the same thing for the other entries on this section (Internet explorer start pages)

As an exception for this section, this won't delete the registry values, but it will set IE's home page to www.google.com, the Start Page Redirect Cache to msn.com and the Local Page to %systemdrive%\Windows\system32\blank.htm, it will also set the html code of this file to a real blank page.

After that, delete the BHO crapware in corresponding sections.

So when you run IE after this, it will be as new. :)

Stable version updated. I've been making hard tests and couldn't find any bugs, so decided to release it.

I'm now working on improvements at the level of the services and drivers. I used to get the services and drivers names with sc.exe and then retrieve the rest of the info from the registry, but as a command line utility, sc.exe doesn't support special characters used in non english languages.

I have a function that corrects this issue for most of the special characters used in european languages, but it's impossible to do it for all the languages, so some services and drivers names could be wrongly displayed if they have non european special characters.

Now I'm implanting WMI to get the services and drivers names, and it's already working fine. I'll test if there's no bugs and in a few days I'll update a new build.

Version 1.4

In this build I managed to really reduce the time to load the processes and the startup entries.

Added more custom commands to the UVK scripts.

UVK now empties all users temp folders and all browsers cache.

Included more fixes (see screenshot below). Click here for + info

Inserted a new page: UVK system info. This screen shows information that can be very useful specially if you're going to reinstall windows or if you need to diagnose a performance or hardware problem.

Clicking Export to html file button will save all the info to an html file on your desktop. The file will be opened with the default internet browser and will look like the screenshot below:

As you can see, if you have several versions of Microsoft office installed, the file will show them all. In the screenshots, the product keys have been hidden to avoid software pirates to use them.

Don't want to scare you, but I can clearly read the keys in your screenshots... You might want to blacken them completly if you don't want pirates to use them illegaly.

Thanks. I didn't want to hide them completelly, but never thought they were that visible...

I just pointed another TNer on UVK and realised I never expressed my liking it and a thank you here. So... Thank you for sharing this with the TN community.

Great tool, I absolutely love it. It's getting better with each update! I love it :)
Keep it up!

Cheers.

Thanks. I'm now working in the new version 1.5. I've enlarged the window again. This will give more space to view the processes and startup entries (see screenshots).

More good news: I've fixed the bug with the DPI at 125% that increased the font in the buttons and labels. Now the text has always the same size, no matter what DPI is used.

Also fixed the blinking bug when refreshing the processes. It wasn't so important, but for me it was annoying.

Today I reinstalled Xp in an old desktop and decided it's too annoying to install the .Net Framework, DirectX, Flash and Java manually.

So this new version will include buttons to install these programs with one click. Already done it fot Flash.

UVK is definitelly a technicien tool, and I'm glad we have technibble to let us techs share the tools we make.

I'll let you know when the new build is up.

Version 1.5 beta

The new beta is up, and full of new features.

I added a few links on the welcome screen (see screenshot below, to VirusTotal, download MBAM, download Avast, Kaspersky utilities, download SuperAntiSpyware and download Avira Antivir on the welcome screen.

Here's where I could use some help from you guys. These links automatically select the correct url based on the OS language. e.g. If your OS lang is spanish, when clicking the kaspersky utilities link, it will open the page http://support.kaspersky.com/sp/viruses/utility. if the OS lang is english, it will open http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/utility, etc.

Well I could only test two langs, so if some of you are willing to test, please say if it worked.

I would also like some feedback for the automatic Install/updates of Flash, Java, .NET Framework and directX (see seccond screenshot).

Thanks in advance.

Fred.

Edit:
OOps... Forgot the link. http://www.carifred.com/uvk/beta/

Version 1.5 ready

I think some of you will like this new update. At least I hope so :D

This bug has been fixed. the font became too big when using the DPI at 125%. Now it should be OK. And the window is now maximizable for the Startup entries and Drivers/Tasks screens.

The Process explorer has more options. Now you can kill just the selected process, kill all processes with the same executable path as the selected one, delete the executable file, kill all non critical processes, and kill all non system processes.

The Startup entries section has a new feature: Stop all non microsoft services (file signatures verified).

UVK fixes has four more fixes: Unattended flash player, Java, .Net framework and DirectX installs/updates.

The Log analizer now creates automatic maintenance and repair scripts.

All fixes and repair options are scriptable. see the help pages for more info.

Sorry for the wait. But here's some feedback.

I tried out the OS language <-> URL's and it worked on my Dutch os'd laptop. (I prefer using an English OS btw :) Much more convenient). Only Kaspersky and Avast support the Dutch languag though. On the other occasions I got directed to English pages automatically and that seems desirable (IMO), so good!

About the Flash, Java & .NET part: works fine :). Tried it on a couple of (virtual) machines.
I was wondering what UVK does with Java on a 64 bit machine. Does it only install 64 bit Java or both, so also the 32 bit?

Hope this answers your questions. Thanks! :)

Thanks for your reply, Pc Ops.

UVK installs the java for IE and Firefox (if installed).

In this build, it only installs the 64 bit version in x64 machines.

I did it this way because I think (but am not sure) that with the 64 bit core installed, Java will also work for x86 apps. I didn't have enoug time to dig arround this matter, so if some of you know how it works, please tell, and I'll add the 32 bit auto setup on the next release if needed.

Thanks again.

Fred

Thanks. Does anyone know how I can contact them? The support forms on their website are only for customers.

This is starting to get me on my nerves.
