Hey guys, I moved to Hawaii last year and finally decided to get my business kicked off again. Since the last site was named around the city I lived in I had to change the name.

My new site/business name is http://www.effingpc.com[/q] I have...Look forward to hearing your thoughts! Bryan

I like it. The aesthetic is nice, and the layout is practical.

I think the logo would benefit from attention. Something graphical would look a lot better IMO

I like the banner - looks good

The Services page isnt selling me on the services you are offering. I really think using a single page to sell services is very limiting. There simply isnt the scope there to provide enough quality information to allow all visitors to make a purchase decision. My main suggestion would be to add a menu, place one service per page, and sell the hell out of all of them using the additional space it will would make available.

Im still getting over the fact that someone, presumably a long time ago, thought it was a good idea to call a place 'Effing'?!. Cracks me up :)

EffingPC, that's just great. I can imagine the phone calls and conversations regarding the name between your customers.

You: "Hello, EffingPC, this is Bryan speaking"
Customer: Yeah I've got this effing popup on my effing pc.
You: You've called the right place.

This is good of course. Get people to talk about your name, get people to walk through your door. "Streisand effect" is what it's called (I think?)

I think he's saying his name used to be based on the town he was in, but now he's moved and changed the name to something else. There isn't an "Effing, HI"

It's hard for me to throw stones, since the name of my business is also similar to what people often call their computers. But "Effing PC" takes that idea one step closer to a profanity less appropriate for business. Of course that's only my opinion and I'm not looking to start a debate about whether the "F" word is (or should be) a socially acceptable pejorative. But I do know it isn't the norm for a professional business.

Your potential customers will face a decision between "Effing Computer" and perhaps "Kapolei Computer & Laptop Repair". I'm sure a certain kind of person will be attracted to the "Effing" while others will be turned off by it. The question is, will more people be offended than attracted.

Yes, it's a memorable name due to shock value. But it also creates a barrier that has to be overcome. No one is going to NOT call you because your name doesn't hint at profanity. But a lot of people might not call if it does.

As my Dad used to say, "You roll the dice and take your chances".

Well naming like that really depends on the culture of the city. For example, when I was living in Chicago for those few months I was in the area called "Boystown" which is a heavily GLBT populated area.

There was a bar/lounge there called "Wangs".

Such a name would be considered taboo in other areas, but in this area it's perfectly acceptable.

This isn't exactly the best example since it's a Thai themed lounge- but it gives you the general idea of what I'm explaining.

Thanks for the input. I ran the name by a lot of people before deciding to go with it. I'm sure that I may lose someone because of the negative connotation it may have for them but I think it won't be an issue for most. Either way I think it is a name that will stick with you. Not to mention that is the way a lot of people feel when dealing with computer related issues.

I'm sure there will be some interesting stories that come out of it at least.

Hah! Well I'm sure my name has followed "effing" many times before so that may just work.

I'm happy with the name and I think it will be fine. On a side note my girlfriend runs a cleaning/home organizing business called The Dirty Spot....does pretty well lol.

2 things

First, are you willing to alienate/turn off even one customer before they even call you just because of your name? What's the value of one customer to you? There HAS to be something just as memorable and fun without putting yourself at an immediate disadvantage like that.

Second, you're also running the risk of people not being to find you in an alphabetical listing or in a web search because there are many easy ways to misspell "effing".
