Hi,

I'm having such an odd problem. I have a user running Windows Vista. He's the admin, the only other user is guest. Over the network the users folder does not show and neither does several other folders such as appdata.

I've had to map two shares separately in order to properly backup his computer over the network. I have c$ mapped as well. I had to manually enter in the paths or I could not browse to it.

I had to manually -s -h the users folder in order to see it over the network.

Any idea what's going on? any help would be greatly appreciated!

have you tried to ping the machines across the network from both sides?
I had a similar problem with a vista machine on one side and xp on the other, the share had been accessible previously but would disappear. Even though the settings were correct in the network and sharing centre on vistas' end I disabled them all and reset them, rebooted and the shares reappeared.

It happened again at a later date and I went in checked all the user access rights to what I wanted, rechecked the share properties on individual folders and all was right again. I was never sure what was causing it but I got rid of the UAC and things have been fine. This was of course not in a server environment, just a home network, so this may not help but it was weird as it never happened when the configurations were xp only.

Yeah I'm having problems with my new wireless home network i installed.
I have a XP & Vista laptop connected, and am going to connect a XP MultiMedia PC @ a later date. Problem is that the shares on the XP keep droppin' and require a restart from time to time. Haven't properly looked at it yet, will do over the next 2 days as I have the off.

hmmm... I have successfully pinged it from the backup pc. I'll check that out and let you know.

Well I tried it and I successfully Pinged from both machines. I also check the C (default, c$) share and it has permissions for Everyone but only Read.

Any suggestions?

I don't suppose there's any firewall software between them that's active is there - maybe check to make sure all firewalls are disabled on both sides if you have third party firewalls or windows firewall might be quietly active - I know its basic, but sometimes I overlook the basic things, trying to find a more complicated solution and sometimes its right in front of me........
