Have a family member needing a color MFP than can print, scan, send/receive faxes. Prefer wireless connection but really would like Ethernet too.

I have not owned a color printer in over 6 years and never missed it but he believes he really needs one to do his work from home.

I have read some reviews but searching for some real life experience from fellow Technibblers.

Any brother printer that uses the LC75 ink cartridges. For $20 you can get all you need to easily, cleanly, and effectively refill the cartridges. The refill kits will outlast the printer. I have an MFC-240C that has been running almost 7 years now and I haven't purchased ink for it in over 7 years.

This printer has hundreds and hundreds of prints per year on it. I wouldn't be surprised if it were close to 1000 prints per year.

Love my HP Pro 8600 Premium. It was just on sale for $200 at Rakuten, but I think they sold out.

I get about 1.5 x the OEM page count on the OEM XL cartridges, but a whole set of OEM XL cartridges runs about $95 on ebay.

The aftermarket supply has finally caught up and you can get a full set of non-OEM XL cartridges with the chip for $31 on ebay.

The two printers below are on sale now locally:

Brother MFCJ4610dw Color All-in-One Printer $150

HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One $100

I have read many user reviews on each and I really cannot find any AIO type color printer with very good reviews. I suppose that is why I still recommend monochrome lasers. I will let the guy (relative) buy the printer and I will set it up for him. I resell a few lasers because I know I will not get call backs on them but not these color machines.

In my opinion, most consumer printers in that price range are junk.

I've had more than my fair share of failures.

However, in that price range HP and Canon seem to give me the best results.

Just my opinion.....they are disposable.......when they quit working and it's not an easy fix.....throw them out and get another.

+1 on that, I've sold a few new ones of the 8600 and bought a refurb for personal use and I love it...

++1 I've installed a few of the HP Officejet Pro 8500/8600 printers & have had real good feedback on them. I just bought a 8600 Pro Plus for myself & I'm very happy with it.

The XL black cartridge is rated for 2300 pages. That might be optimistic, but even if you were able to only get 1500 pages for $37 that's not too bad.

He purchased a HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro at BestBuy for $150. I also recommended that he get their 2-year replacement warranty for only $26.

This was my first experience with this printer line, and this was the best printer setup interface that I have come across.
