I was getting ready to spring for a 4 port KVM switch & then I noticed all the issues that folks seem to be having when trying to use one with Win 7,

Can anyone recommend me a good one that will work with Win 7 & earlier for reasonable money?

Thanks! :)

I use a Belkin SOHO 4-port KVM (model F1DS104J). Supports audio and PS2/USB keyboards/mice.

(shop around, Amazon has it for $99, other sites for as much as $179!)

When I first got it, I had 1 Vista 32-bit PC; 1 Win 7 64-bit, an XP Pro PC and the 4th position was used to plug in a variety of PCs.

Today, there are three Win 7 (all 64-bit) and the 4th position is still used for a variety of PCs.

Never really had a problem.

Thanks for that info., I will keep that in mind if my current choice doesn't pan out. After some research, I purchased a TRENDnet TK-409K, which only supports USB mouse/keyboard and USB 1.1 Specifications Compliant...:o

But we'll see how it works out - might not be all that bad. I do like the specs much better on the Belkin that you listed though.

I've had a chance to test this KVM out. I am currently using it between an XP pc & win 7 ultimate pc. I have to be honest & say it is a bit "buggy".

Maybe it is the nature of these switches, maybe I got a bad one, I don't know; what I do know is that (sometimes, not always) when I push the buttons to switch between the two pc's it will occasionally not recognize the pc being switched to.

And, if that pc has entered sleep mode, forget it... no way to wake the pc up since I have no mouse or keyboard control.

To me, this thing is almost useless. I will probably return it.

Even though I would rather not fill my bench with four sets of monitors, mouse & keyboard, I don't really see any alternative.

Novel concept...technology is lacking...IMO...

I have an ATEN CS64U 4-port on my workbench which I use daily.

They sell for under $100 here in Oz.

Im very happy with it. I have never encountered an OS it wont work with.

I run daisy chained Compaq 8port units - can currently run 24 pc's off one monitor/kb/mouse..... they work great except they are PS/2 so we use a lot of PS/2 to USB adapters.... very few issues though -work on all OS's and configurations......
These we pulled from a server environment but even used they do very well.

Something like this:

Oh here they are cheaper:

We got 8' 12' and 24' KVM cables with the lot we bought..... best $75 I've spent for the bench!!
