Hi, just a quick posting before i go on a call out, the psu in my own computer is rather noisy and i'm looking to replace it for a quieter one, do any of you know of good quieter ones at all ?

off to call out will check back later :D

What spec is your computer Andy? It will help determine what wattage PSU you'll need. I've always been a fan of Seasonic and Tagan PSUs personally.

the wattage i would need is a 500watts because of my ATI radeon 1950 X graphics card.

specs are

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM

Card name: ATI Radeon X1950 GT

the PSU that is correctly running is a 500 w coolermaster which i thought was supposed to be the quietest but compared to other computers that i see on a daily basis mine is rather noisy, I tested to make sure it wasn't my cpu fan that was noisy by using speedfan and turning the speed wayy down but this wasn't the case its the PSU.

hope you can recommend me a nice quiet one :)

cheers :D

I installed a Thermaltake 430 W PSU in my sister's computer last week, and she's still thanking me - she says it's so quiet that she actually has to look at the lights on the front panel to see if it's still running. That's close enough to 500 W that I'm guessing their higher-power model would be quiet as well. I hope that helps.

That 430 is the only thing we will install on a standard computer that needs a new PSU (unless it needs more wats). Very well made, dirt cheap, quiet running, really nice cable design, nice paint job and gold grill work. We just hope they never stop making them.

My last two PSU were Thermaltake I am very happy with them both and it might have been my last 3. I have also used a Rosewill from newegg and it worked great.

Here are reviews for both the 430 and 500 watters:

430 Watt

500 Watt

One word of caution: if the case you're working with is a tight fit already, this may not be the power supply for you. It took a bit of maneuvering to get the unused cables tucked away behind optical drives and such where they wouldn't block airflow due to the metal mesh shielding on them that makes them thick and hard to fold. Other than that, it's a pure winner.

Ooooh, and modular cables, too! Yes, that model looks very nice! I imagine it's a bit pricier, though I couldn't find the price in the review. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
