Microsoft withdraws Media Creation tool for Nov update

That is lame. As a work around does windows 10 work like 8.1 to use updated images via DISM? It looks like that might be nessesary soon.

I pulled down Win10Prox64 on Thursday, but didn't grab any others.

What's the best way to get that to you? I'm not moving a lot of large files around these days.

When was the new version made available via the tool? I have downloaded it this last month but was under the impression it was the older July verision still. This was bases on after installing it, we still had that large update to do.

I just reread the article, we may the newer versions(if it came out a week ago), but as soon as installing it, we had that large service pack like update still.

Reading lots of comments on Reddit that the update was very buggy and so it may have been pulled. Doesn't explain why it is still on Windows Update(reports are that it vanished and reappeared.) Left hand/right hand doing different forms of damage control?

.....No wonder my fresh Win10 install wasn't activating with 8.0/1 key; that ability is gone again (for now), right?

UPDATE:

It would not activate.

I went ahead and used this:

Ran it on TOP of latest full ISO (after update was pulled, meaning x.10240), and it upgraded the OS. Activated by itself.

Thanks for saving me some time.

If they pulled the MCT update and Win Update for any real issue, I'm sure enough people pulled it while it was up or them to have to issue fixes. I don't see any issues (but barely touched it), and I'll take the risk, as this is for a friend of friend, reduced price etc.

A couple of questions for the November update.

I noticed it does not allow choosing for home or pro like the older media creation tool, will it ask to make a decision later when installing as to what version?

Since they pulled it, do you feel it is safe to use, or would it be better to use the old build and go through the slow update process?

This is so extremely annoying. One more reason to hate Microsoft.

The MCT update allowed us to download a single ISO containing Windows 10 Home and Pro in both x86 and x64 architectures WITH the November update - so it was essentially an all-in-one, up-to-date ISO. After installing Windows 10 with the November update, you just had to install updates post October 31st, 2015 (the modification date of the ISO). That was great for us because it saved us time.

Now we go back to having to have separate ISOs of Windows 10 Home and Pro that contain the July build, which is basically Windows 10 BETA.

This guy makes a very solid point:

"Why is Microsoft's software so bad? Because, as can be witnessed right here on this web site, Microsoft's users will complain loudly and persistently but they will continue to use their software. Microsoft knows they can produce sub par software, very sub par, and their users will continue to purchase/use it. To the hapless Windows user who suffer from poor product performance, I say, if you want to see any improvement in Microsoft's product, leave it for something else.

Look at their mobile phone offering. By all accounts it's a great product. Why? Because they are working very hard to get people to want it. How does Windows 10 Desktop rack up to Microsoft's Lumia 950 XL? How's mobile Windows 10 doing? Any word on problems like they're having on the desktop version? No? Gee, why couldn't they do that for the desktop? Because they don't have to put the time, effort and money into it. Their users will accept any piece of crap they shove in front of them. Their users will endure endless abuse and still remain loyal. Most of them anyway. The proof is right here on this page."

So does this mean that if we use that build it will fail? Or can we use it if we have already created the ISO?

The article isn't really clear is it!

Because the Lumia is a fixed hardware platform. Why are Apple software products (historically, if not actually) more reliable? Same reason.

This is not defending Microsoft, just the facts.

I downloaded and used the Nov update last week, and used this same iso on a machine this morning.

I attempted to use the clients w7 home key, and it failed. But as w10 had already been installed on this machine, it was already activated when finally installed..

So what ISO do you get if you purchase Win 10 outright?

The July build...so you get Windows 10 BETA. Seriously, the product they released in July was not ready for prime-time.

A huge gripe I have with MS is that they are so blunt and unclear and there's very little anyone can do to get better clarity. They just do whatever they want and stomp all over us because they can because it's either them or Linux, which most people do not want for many reasons.

Absolutely. This is why I'd like to see them come out with more hardware crafted by them.

You are making an assumption there or have you actually purchased a copy of Windows 10 for download?

Too many cooks. Somebody in Microsoft that doesn't like the WAAS model jumped in and made a decision. Or someone pulled the ISO for technical reasons and didn't tell anyone in PR why and because Microsoft is such a dog eat dog place to work someone had to act on the fly and remove references to the ISO and claim that they have decided not to update this way. Bet ya a beer that this gets reversed yet again when the next build comes out.

If you purchased Windows 10 in disc format prior to the November update, of course you would get the original build (don't know from personal experience but logic says more than likely...just makes sense). After the November update was released, no clue.

Very insightful. I've been hoping things at M$ would improve tremendously under the new CEO's reign.
