Microsoft Releases KB4090913 Update to Fix Critical USB Driver Issue

What a crazy situation!

Couldn't believe it when W10 systems that were only a month off our bench started rolling in with this problem.

Turned lemons into lemonade as a customer sent this to his golfing association!

Subject: computer problems

I get asked whether I know a computer service connection. Here is a little story.

Apparently Windows 10 had some nasty glitches that came to light after installation. Last Friday after golf I clicked on a Norton Antivirus update; after installation my mouse wouldn’t work. My computer people tried for an hour or so remotely to fix the problem so the owner, Matthew, made a house call at 5.30 Friday evening and worked on the problem until about 6.45; identifying the problem as likely Windows 10 that suddenly would no longer recognize the mouse. He took it away with him to work on it at their office in Sechelt. By this morning it was up and running again.

A message;

  • if you have installed windows 10 be careful about virus and other updates
  • and if you need a good computer fixer-upper call Mainstay Computers 604 885 2410.

Had a customer with this exact problem. On Saturday, everything's fine. He came in on Monday morning and the mouse wouldn't work. Once I verified that it wasn't a hardware issue, I was able to do a system restore from last week which resolved the problem. (And what a pain in the butt trying to run the PC using only the keyboard!)

Jeez, it's about time. This update threw a Dell all in one PC into a reboot loop last week. It wasn't touch screen and the only way to get into repair mode was shutting it down during boot to force the menu.

Lucky for me there was a system restore point and I was able to go back.

If MS is going to force updates on computers they need to make sure the updates don't leave systems in a broken state. This is at least the third W10 update pushed out that's made a good number of computers inoperable.

Ah, just last week I had a keyboard repair and it came back the next day when the mouse and the keyboard stopped working overnight. I saw windows had updated so I rolled back and it worked, didn’t have time to do the research so thanks for this.
