Members link exchange program

Hi All,
I note that for rankings its good to have backlinks to your site from sites which are similar in context to your own and wondered if Technibble had a reciprocal members link exchange program for its users who want to participate in one or if anyone thought this would be a good idea?

I was thinking that for it to work the rules would probably only be that the link is reciprocal and able to be seen by search engines, that if you remove your reciprocal links that you should inform others in the program and that you would only be required to backlink members from outside your own areas for obvious reasons?

Could this work? Would it be worthwhile?

This comes up all the time. It doesn't work like you think it would. Search Technibble a little and you'll see a few threads about it.

Here is one thread... but it never really had a happy ending or a sad ending.

I would be all for having a link exchange/tech directory. I already talked to Bryce about it as I thought about hosting one page on my site (he's ok with it). From what others say, it's not good. But hey, I think it's good so I'm in!

I'm all for helping structure the idea.

My thoughts initially would be that someone host a main page that others can submit into a form, a legitimate website, name, phone, email, etc (and must be verified). Then when the information is submitted, the host can put the information into a page and sort them geographically to create a directory of technicians as well. It's a 2 for 1 type of deal.

I would love to see a directory.

No clue, but sounds delicious to me.

I have another one to add tonight, so far 3 of us are in. See how I added the names with the link under, should work nice.

Colony, you from the south? I like the yall part you got going on lol.

My website is on a server break from godaddy while I move to a new linux server. I called for one freaking thing today and found out that I needed 4 things done, so I can't touch the site, but go ahead and do the directly app anyway. We wil do it in a day or so. Getting more everyday, I hope this helps everyone.

I'm not a big SEO guy and maybe it doesn't even matter but, I think to get the interest of the search engine bots you need more than a URL link to the other persons site. Maybe somebody else that is more versed in SEO can chime in.

Ideally the link should be anchored like this:
Code:
Computer Help directly over the Internet

So that it would look like this or my signature below:
Computer Help directly over the Internet

The search bots will see Computer Help directly over the Internet and associate it with my site.

Here's some more info:

I think that's what I did? I am not sure, but I am working on addin the rest this weekend. I have added it with the anchored links, not sure.

Anyone else want in, get your apps in by tomorrow afternoon. I have a crazy next week, I have 3 business trips in 7 days. ugh...
