I have a client that needs to send 3 different weekly newsletters to roughly 1500-2000 people each week. Does anyone have a suggestion on free software or service that can accomplish this? Their email host doesn't allow for more than about 200 contacts to go out at once and I think gmail's limit is 500 email per day. i suggested Constant Contact but they don't want to pay for it. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You're not going to find any free ones that do this properly without getting them in all sorts of spam lists thus all their outbound e-mails will be rejected. And..pretty soon their own e-mail domain that they send to will be black listed. It costs money to do this properly.

Constant Contact is the gold standard for this. We use it ourselves.

ExpressPigeon is another one...I have not compared pricing though.

Do they want a free BMW too? For 2000 emails Constant Contact is pretty cheap. $50 a month. If there email newsletters do any good at all it should more then pay for such use. Its the cost of doing business. If there was a free method that worked then Constant Contact would be out of business. Who would use them?

I totally agree, for what they have paid me over the past year to keep fiddling with their issue and give them temporary fixes that break every time the mail servers change their policy or they forget how to do it they could have paid for CC for the year. Their a small city based organization so I understand not wanting to spend to much but I don't think they are looking at the overall benefit. Maybe I should just print out their payment history for the year and ask them if they would like to cut their losses and subscribe to CC now. Either way it's money in my pocket.

Have them check with CC regarding pricing...since they're a gov't entity..they may quality for the non-profit bundle that CC offers...which is something like 30% less.

Constant contact is probably fine, but the gold standard would be something more along the lines of exacttarget.

At the low end with CC is icontact and aweber. Mail Chimp is better than those 3, and I think is FREE at your subscriber level.

I've used icontact and it works well, when I priced it out it was cheaper than constant contact. Like somebody else said mail chimp is free and may work for your needs for free

MAILCHIMP! up to 2000 contacts, up to 12k per month - they are an awesome company :)

You will like them
