Making more $$$ in the pc biz with DVRs

Do you have more info on the soft/hardware you used for the install?
I currently have a client whos been inquiring about doing a job like this.

Yes i do..

I like Qsee for small systems. Qsee currently sells a pci card /c 2 cams for $150. Now... with this said, this is very important. There are some other camera systems on tigerdirect that you simply should not buy, b/c they have horrible reviews (check it out for yourself ) ...
HOWEVER - for a more professional solution, you need to check into EyeMax Dvr systems, intotech, geovision, kalatel, etc.
Personally i used bluecctv.com, b/c I know Sean there, and he is great support for any questions, also, you cannot buy eyemax systems over the net, you have to go through a distributor, but I am not trying to push any supplier on you, but after my experiences, bluecctv.com was awesome.
Eyemax will not sell directly to a pc store, they sell to their distributors, and those guys sell to your pc biz.
If you have any questions I can definitely help answer them for you. Just send me an email, I have to fix my email address on this thing, so I will do that today.

Thanks for the advice and the link... I had a customer contact me yesterday who owns a car lot. He had some things stolen, but without a video system, he couldn't pin down who did it. He called me to ask if I knew anything about that type of thing, to which my response was, "Let me get back to you..." After reading your post, I now have a new service to offer. Thanks!

what sort of licensing issues are there to installing these type of systems? Specifically running the wires.

I think in my state I can't even run Ethernet Cable without a license. I need to research it more.

usually its the local code that requires if you need a electricians license, etc.

a call to the city hall zoning department should answer all your questions.

What do you do in that case? :)

Certainly. :) In my case, I was an electrician for 8 years. But here is another simple approach. You can contract it out to an electrician, and let him worry about it, or ... ask the owner to get it done.

We have been in the CCTV biz for over 7 years. We get more CCTV work than PC work usually.

In some states they are starting to make it so you actually need to have a CCTV license. Kinda like alarm/fire. Just having an electricians license doesnt always cut it.

I just checked up on this. In New Zealand, you need a license to operate as a Security Guard if you want to install CCTV (or alarm systems, or a lock for a safe!). It doesn't cost all that much to apply, but is a bit of a chore by the look of things. The Police will check you out for any convictions and stuff like that.

Thats not too bad than. In some states here you need to take a few extensive cert tests(NICET, etc).

Does the software come with the card?

Have you tried any wireless cameras?

It sounds like just about any CPU should run this. What CPU's and OS have you used?

I got an 8 camera new install gig.

I priced the parts as shown in the attachment.

the cameras are..

1 x 25mm lens w/ 330' IR
5 x 6mm lens w/ 110' IR
2 x dome 3.6mm lens with 50' IR

card is 240 fps (30fps p/chann)
