I have been working on updating my website and I have just put the new framework online. My front page looks kind of blah and missing something. It might be that there is too much text or something is just missing to catch your eye. Any suggestions for content on my front page or changes that I could make to make it stand out more? Thanks

Oh, I also am in the process of transfering over to HostGator. My previous host didn't offer SQL, PHP, or any other options like that. So, with the new host, I will have a lot more options available to me. It will take a few days or so for the site to transfer to them.

Thanks.

The Atomic Cleanup is a bit on the large size, and I'm having trouble finding out what exactly I'll get for my $99

probably not really what you're asking, but it gets the ball rolling :)

we just signed up for hostgator a few days ago, and I'm currently working on a new site revamp as well. Going to transfer our domain over, but our current host is dragging their feet with giving us the auth ID number. They're so slow with any sort of support, plus they don't support MySQL and php either, and I'm working with wordpress here. Hostgator has received so much praise here, how could I not go with them.

Anyway, back on topic. I see what you mean about the blah factor. It's the unbroken wall of text that first gets my attention (our site is just the same way). Maybe if you split it up into boxes or something, each with a specific quality or feature: one for your experience, one for security/privacy, one for networking, one for recycling. Maybe put them 2X2 or 3X3, and less wordy. They can always link to a services page with more detail.

From what I've experienced, and read on here and other design forums, you have to avoid the TLDR walls of text on the Home page. Most people take 7 seconds to look at your page and if it's too much to read, they bail.

Yeah, your right. I'll probably just take that out. I was really just trying to break up the blah. It's funny how we can't see simple things like this in our own sites, but can easily pick them out in others. Probably because I spent so much time looking at it, it just started to seem normal lol. Thanks!

Good luck with your transfer. I may just switch to a template. I was't able to use them with my old host due to no php. The wall of text is intrusive. I would love to break it up into multiple boxes, and have a couple side by side, but I don't know how to do that. Right now the rounded edges are images and controlled with a css file. I really have no clue on how to control their size. I had to put it in a table in order to keep it from filling the whole page. Thank's for the response.

Can anyone help by sharing some code to do that? I'd appreciate it.

This is just my opinion because I'm not a designer :) I find the blue too strong and it makes the text weak. I would always have an image in there to break it up a bit. I like the help key image I have on my website, lot's of people use it. I would definitely do something about the blue though.

I'd shrink the Atomic Cleanup a little, more banner-sized and bold up the price (it's too faint; maybe add an edge to the $99). Make it clickable to its own page with a snazzy breakdown of what you do for it.

Excellent suggestions everyone. Thanks again.

EDIT: Well, I just nuked the page lol. I did that because my domain is officially forwarded to HostGator now and I have so many more options available to me. I may upload it on HG just so I can have something there while I build my new site, though. I was messing around with Joomla, but I'm having a hard time finding a template that fits what I want and the colors I want. There is a ton to search through, so it will probably be a bit before it goes online. Thanks again for all your help.

Looks good except the contact us page. Now that you have SQL and PHP you can use wordpress, just an option, with a large community. Makes sites look very uniform, seo friendly, and east to manage.
