Look at this DIY Dc Jack repair

It looks so much more professional when you take the trouble to use a matching color of silicon sealant.

Doesn't really make any sense. If the guy went through all the trouble to do this work, why not just buy a new $5 jack and make it a clean fix ? It looks like a compaq, probaby a CQ6x.

I question the reasoning behind this "repair".

Is that really a dc jack repair? Is he powering his laptop through the headphone port of his iPod?

Actually, that might not be a horrible idea. I bet he never has a broken dc jack again.:D

Hmmm.....

Does it actually charge/work?

Sloppy, and it looks really bad aesthetically...some credit for ingenuity though. Outside the box.

You know, one way to think about it is this: IF the customer is just RIDICULOUS at tripping over the cable, for whatever reason (the way they just keep their laptop in their work area, kids, pets) if the charger is yanked out again, the charger will just disconnect; and not cause as much damage to the jack.

I just don't know what he using to charge it...

Outside the box.

Literally, LOL. I do agree it is very different and credit has to be given for a very different solution to a common problem. I feel that it should have a disclaimer of "Do not try this at home, or work."

Necessity is the mother of all inventions.

Supposedly it worked until it started smoking which is how I ended up with it. The ac adapter was spliced with the other end of the thing sticking out of the laptop. I didn't understand why he didn't just change the jack either. He got the thing open all he had to do as you said was unplug and replug the new jack.
