So I just have a few questions. I have been reading this entire forum over and over and still cant decide. I love teamviewer but I am just getting started and can in no way do that. Playing with crossloop and its decent but not a lot of features and your kind of locked into their little setup.

I want to make my main focus to be remote support and soon I hope to be able to fork out for the one I like. I keep seeing that log me in has a free version but does it have great functionality like reboot, safe mode, unattended access and can I use it to log into my customers computers without it being against the law to use it for commercial use?

I am have it dloaded and have read a lot about it but I want to make sure from people who use it to let me know if its a decent option to get started. I will only be working one computer at a time and maybe 2-3 pc's a day it seems in my market to start so I dont need hot and heavy to begin with anyhow.

LMI Free has full functionality but must be installed; it's not something you can just point a customer to and have them click once or DL it themselves.

It's a great option for your regular customers. AND, if you lean that way, get them to run something like Supremo (free for commercial use), connect that way and, once connected, install LMI Free.

For a 'real' remote support service, you will need to find yourself something with more of a 'one-click' option. I went for ScreenConnect and it's got just about every feature you'd need and is a one-time, affordable purchase.
 
Log me in is awesome. Like the above poster said there isnt a one click connect solution. (you can deploy it if you use the LMI Central program)
If you are looking to connect to random customers that you dont have physical access to at the beginning, its probably not the tool you would use.

But for someone who meets a client and then wants permanent quality remote access it is awesome and free.

Log Me In Central is $300/year (but there is always a code to get it for $150) and this is good once you have alot of clients on it as it allows you to organize them by client or town or what have you. But certainly not necessary.

The ipad app is excellent as well.

My only drawback to the Log Me In world, is while the basic functionality is free (and its completely functional) All the additional stuff they offer is insanely priced. Stuff like log me in rescue, smart phone access, auto matic windows update for your clients. The prices are crazy.

I use the basic free logmein with GFI remote management tools for my needs. I also subscribe to the central so I can organize all the accounts I have buy company or town.

Since I dont do remote access for clients I have never seen in person I dont have a need for the one click access stuff.

To address your other questions, LogMeIn free can be used commercially for free.

As for functionality

Reboot - you can just reboot the machine normally. You will need to reconnect after a reboot. Not ideal - but it is free

Safe Mode - again no - but you can do this manually also

Unattended access - yes - so long as the machine is online, you can connect right up to it so long as the LogMeIn app is installed on the machine.
 
You could always create a logmein free account, and then use the trial of logmeincentral, after you activate the trial you have the ability to create a .exe the customer can run that will add their pc to your logmein account.
After the logmeincentral trial has expired the .exe still works.
 
I use logmein as well. I purchased the app for my cellphone originally and I have found it to be very convenient (except for the inability to fully remote access a random computer when needed) BUT! its very nice for what it is. Great for regular customers.

LMI Free allows full remote control functionality but not things like file transfer or remote printing (which TeamViewer does allow).

Not sure if TV does this but one thing I do a lot on LMI is multiple simultaneous remote sessions.

I'm sure you know but TV does have a download that your client just downloads and runs without installing anything. I have found this to work well for those clients I don't really want to add to my long list inside LMI. Mainly because they won't call again for another 6 months to a year.

As a workaround, if you have a website, FTP site or similar, you can upload the LMI Free installer to it. Then you can send your client a link or direct them to your website to download the LMI Free installer (keep it up-to-date). The only downside to this is you'll have to give your client the username and password to your account to complete the install. To combat this you could setup a separate LMI account just for this type of install and change the password after each client.

There is always a workaround it just depends on how clever you want to be and how complicated you're willing to take it.
 
Not quite sure why you were quoting me on that and the "not sure if you know" part. TV's features weren't really the question being answered in the thread. The OP asked about LMIFree and the answers were given about it.

And you can't just upload a LMI installer to a site and have the client run it. You'd also have to be giving them your login info in order to connect their machine to your account. That's not something I'm handing out to anyone. The only way around that would be to create a custom installer (which I've done) but the point remains that you'd still be having them install the software on their system, not just run it portably.

Not sure if you guys missed it but if you do as i said above you DO NOT have to give anyone your username and password for your account. Once they run the installer log into logmein and you'll notice the new pc has been added.
 
If you use logmein at all, the best route is to purchase central. From there you can create a deployment link.

This deployment link can be accessed by your customers on your site.

Currently I have one, the customer clicks it, it asks for a description ( i tell the customer to enter their full name and address) It downloads, they run it, it asks for a password (general password) then you go from there.

Ive done it numerous times and it works great.
 
I use LMI FREE constantly. For remote install I have the file hosted on my website so all I have to do is email a link to the download and talk the user through the short install. Whenever I physically work on a computer I always put the .msi file in a folder or install LMI and disable it for if/when the client next needs assistance. Another method is to have your customer create their own LMI Free account so the login credentials belong to them.
In the advanced options of LogMeIn free are options for Hard Reboot and Safe Mode Reboot as well as many other useful settings. The only cons to LMI Free is you do not have local audio or printing. You can sync clipboards so file copy paste works for small text files and for large file tranfer I use ftp from my website.
LMI is in my opinion hands-down the #1 program for remote assistance.
 
@GeekHelp4U - Thank you for this series of informational posts. +1 to your rep and my respect for your efforts. I am currently considering remoting in with a client base that has grown over the last couple of years and who trust and like my work. The combo of Logmein Free and the trial Logmein Central sounds as well but I will buy the license if I go that route. Integration with my website for download will be the way to go.
