Windows Vista 64bit. Im at my wits end.

1. Tried the Windows fix it 50357.
2. Added the DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag(1) to registry
3. Uninstalled and removed the Current network drivers
3a. installed new network card with updated drivers.
4. Turned on the winhttp web proxy auto-discovery service
5. Ran recovery CD.
6. Restored to Install recovery point.

..nothing! I can get the ip from the router, and even get the dns server information. But I cannot connect to the internet.

Anything I missed?

Alot of information missing here, so i'm gonna request some information from you,

Is there any other computers hooked up to the router and through to the internet?

Can the computer hook up to the internet without the router?

what kind of computer?

what kind of router?

Thanks.

Sounds like a winsock issue, and I missed the boat on a similar thread recently by not suggesting it, so at the risk of doing it again, I'll post. Try the WinsockReset utility at my website, link in sig. See if it reports any missing catalog/protocol entries and try a replace with default entries if so.

Ran your tool, At the first reboot I got a 169 address. So I rebooted again, and Was able to get a 192. address. Local link only. So I ran the sfc /sannow. and it generated a 40mb log file. Im reading through that now.

Resolved

OK.. Figured it out.

After running a few more checks. I noticed a quick line in a popup. I saw the word Mcaffe. This confused me because I could not find any other Firewall installed other than Windows. .. it was the first thing I looked for a misconfigured Firewall.

So I did some digging. It looks like the owner has installed McAffe and then tried to remove it. For whatever reason it was not in the /Program Files/ Directory.

So I ran a copy of the Mcaffee removal tool..and As soon as It started. WWW access came back.

All that for a borkd firewall installed. I am charging full price for this.
