Local Cloud Server

What's the purpose of the server? "cloud server" doesn't say a whole lot about their needs.

This kind of thread reiterates the importance of educating customers. "Cloud" is the buzzword of the moment. I wish I could find who coined it for this purpose and strangle him. It means "not here". People have been using the "cloud" ever since they got their first CompuServe account. "Private cloud" simply means they want their servers in house for whatever reason and be able to access them on the go. The people that ask for a "private cloud" have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. Like stony asked, what do they want? Exchange? Rds? File storage? Stream their own goat porn? Find out what they're after, and give it to them. But, for Pete's sake, educate them!

Uhm...I believe I would have asked for more specific details about the goat porn....Alpine goats, Angora goats, dairy goats, ....cuz trust me....nothing beats seeing a Nigerian Dwarf goat getting it from a large Irish breed.

lmao. something about every time someone mentions goat porn, I can't stop laughing for at least 5 minutes :D

Actually there is more to cloud storage than a simple file server advanced cloud server actually sync files and settings over to other apps on cross platform devices.
Server software is device specific mainly other workers on workstations server software is not very phone friendly at least the ones i have seen.

Thanks for the explanation. Really. So you're saying this "cloud server" syncs files and settings? It doesn't just float over our heads?

This is why we asked for more information. You want in-house drop box. Ok. It's not going to work quite the way you think it will, but good luck with that. I swear I'm not TRYING to be an ass, but every time I see a thread with your name on it, I get a momentary cringe.

"Basically they all need to be able to work with same files at work or home"

vpn

also syncs email between work and home as well as mobile,

exchange

multiple offices to work off a single set of files

i'm thinking RDS if is some sort of database thing like quickbooks

Cross-office Collaboration

server with rds and have a NAS integrated with active directory

Secure File Backup

Datto

that's my 2cents.

I feel like everything your asking for can easily be handled with a hypervisor to run a couple of onsite virtual servers.

this just shows that entrepreneurs and small businesses comprise the largest faction of cloud users, although larger businesses are beginning to follow suit.
