I turned over to Linux Mint sometime around February this year, and I have to say no problems at all so far so good even the wife likes it. But just a couple of niggles and I’m not sure who's at fault here if that’s the right word, Firstly is you can't get Sky Go and at the time of writing this Virgin equivalent is the same, now for those who don't know Sky Go is where I watch my Football and films when I work late very important to have,.

Also files what a nuisance between Windows and Linux using one from the other, apart from that is very fast and sharp and we like using it lots, it's without the start menu going missing or the Windows store won't download or can't get updates.

But I will says there are some very similar things between Window 10 and Linux and I’m not sure who shall we say borrowed the ideas off who, all I will say lets see what Linux Mint 18 brings.

Just to add I have got nine customers with Linux Mint 17.3 since Feb I know that’s not many but we not pushing it or giving the sell we just mention it in passing as a alternative, and we only had one phone call from the nine informing us that one of the clients could not download a Invoice from him to his customer, I believe it to be a user issue somewhere alone the line.

I have used it a little bit, too... as have several co-workers and friends.

For an individual, stand-alone systems, it really cannot be beat. It is absolutely robust & reliable. Provided it runs all the software you need, stick with it.

It is only when you run into some crazy piece of software like Microsoft Outlook or Adobe Cad... or get placed into a centrally manged/corporate Active Directory network that all of the sudden Windows makes sense.

What Interface are you running? Cinnamon? Have you tried Dockey?

@NJW - I have been reading posts that even using the plugin replacement for silverlight on linux its still not working. I dont know as I do not have skygo and so I am limited in what I know.

The one question I always ask my clients when switching them to linux is if they use itunes or apple products. Apple doesnt like to play with linux at all.

I don't know either, but it's worth a try. Certainly, pipelight does what it says, but there's no guarantee with any particular service.

Yes, and add to that list most stand-alone GPS systems and obscure genealogy programs.

Actually managing content on iDevices is not a problem, but that's entirely divorced from the Apple ecosystem.

Sky Go may work with pipelight. I used it successfully for Netflix (until G Chrome was able to work directly) and it's easy to set up and maintain. Google knows of several tutorials.
I have tried that, I spent most of the morning one day downloading pipelight then sliverlight then spoofing sky into thinking I was Windows
but kept getting the error 6030 but enjoyed it and was learning from it never got it to work but I will try again.

... kept getting the error 6030 ...
Did you set pipelight for an older version of Silverlight? (See: this pipelight page.)

If it's any consolation (which it isn't ...), there are fewer and fewer ways to watch Sky Go on Windows:
Sky support page said:
If you currently use Chrome, Firefox 64-bit or Edge, we recommend you switch to a different web browser to enjoy entertainment from Sky Go or Sky Store on a compatible Windows computer, laptop or Mac.
followed by links to Firefox 32-bit and IE 11.

Edit to add: Kodi apparently has an add-on Sky Go Client, last updated in April 2016. Kodi should be in the Mint repositories.
