So every time I post my ad on Craigslist I get the email saying "Let me know if you are capable of repairing computers in volumes"

What do you think the scam is here? I cant figure it out.

I have an autoresponder asking them what the scam is but they will not let me in on the secret :)

Once you give them your address they mail you a check for more then the amount you quote claiming its an accident and them ask you to send them the remainder back. Once you do there check bounces and you out the whole bit and you never see a computer.

I too have have been getting alot of these fake emails from Craigslist. Do not fall for it.

Same Here!

I've been getting one everyday from different people. The first time I emailed the person back and when they replied it was something like 'looking to repair 4 Dell Pentium IV laptops and they wanted 'lifetime avg updates' and the very end of the email said to let them know how much I would charge to repair the 8 units and they'd send out a cashier's check right away'.....scam, scam, scam!

I emailed them and warned them that they email me again, I'd report their email address to the local authorities....lol.....haven't seen that email since.

:)

This reminds me of another scam I saw a couple years ago ... I was trying to sell a motorcycle for a girl I know and we posted it on there and immediately got flooded with emails from people with terrible grammer and punctuation ( lol ) that wanted to send me a cashiers check for more than the amount of the bike ( for some reason banks overseas are cutting people checks for more than they originally request ;) ) so they wanted us to deposit the check then send them the difference and then they would want to make arrangements for the bike to be shipped.

After the first two emails like this I got on the same day I knew something was up ... I ended up creating a form letter for those responses outlining all the info I had dug up on this scam and strangely enough they never got back to me.

99% of the time these scams come from countries outside the jurisdiction of the US (Nigeria, Sri Lanka) and with whom the US has no treaties. Local authorities can't do anything, the FBI can't do anything (I talked directly with an FBI agent about it). These scammers know that, and all you're going to do is confirm that your email address is legitimate by responding to them.

I get these all the time. I had one that the sender sent out to a list of companies and did not BCC the email, so I got the full list of companies they messaged. One of those companies sent back a reply that word for word said "With all do respect, kindly F#$k off."

I still get the occasional email like this when posting on craigslist but generally ignore them.
