Customer brought a PC to me that he dropped, screen is mainly white with the odd bit of colour. An external monitor shows the PC is fine. I have now tried 3 different new LED panels sold by the supplier as being compatible but none of them show any sign of life. Each time I have plugged back in the old panel that lights up (with the original fault). Only connector is the 20+way flat cable.

What are the chances of all of the supplier's stock being faulty? Anyone have any idea as to what I try next?

Original Part N° is 5D10J46202

Thanks

Did you try a new video cable (usually 30-pin)? (Doesn't sound like the problem if the old screen shows life with the old cable though.)

Just curious if you have a preferred source for these (40-pin, in my case)? I may purchase one just to rule out that as being the problem I'm suddenly having with the Dell G15 5515 after the new screen was put back on, but which involved re-routing the original cable. It powers up (as in the backlight comes on), but nothing else. Prior to that it was firing up just fine.

Did you disconnect the battery before fitting the replacement screen?

Yes. And I disconnected the battery again before walking away last night. I'll reconnect in a short while and see if a "miraculous healing" may have occurred. And, on rare occasion for something really weird like this, those do.

Why power cycling (regardless of how one does it) often solves the most bizarre problems works I doubt any of us will ever know. I'll report back on the actual topic I have active about this particular issue:

Dell G15 Ryzen Edition - Replacing the screen

I don't have a spare video cable but the fact the old one works and appears stable leads me to believe the cable is OK

I have tried disconnecting the battery before fitting the new screen, that doesn't change anything.

Have now tried 3 different LED panels, none of which work. Supplier is saying that perhaps the PC will not accept "compatible" components. How likely is this ? They are offering a refund but that doesn't help get the customer's PC working again.

I've had this happen with an ASUS, the model of which I don't recall at the moment. Two successive new screens would not work but a used "test screen" I had worked. Both new screens were returned for refund and tested perfectly fine. I've had another of that same model work perfectly fine with a new screen from the same supplier. No idea why.
