Ok, it's time for me to admit something. I haven't had a repair business in over a year. The last time I had a customer was February 2010. Also, I don't have a car. I can't afford a car right now. Also, I have craploads of debt that bankruptcy didn't erase, that I still have to pay. Therefore, I am going to focus on paying down my debt with my SSI check, and just shut down my business. I don't think I'll renew my licenses, either-this is gonna take a few years. I really liked TN and it really helped me, but I simply haven't been operating for a while, and I don't know when I can operate again. So long, and thanks for all the fish. /logoff

hey! Don't be so quick to leave! Even if you aren't running the business right now, that doesn't mean you aren't welcome here.

Praying that God will give you hope through this tough time, and that your business will eventually bounce back with great success. :)

don't leave just yet. it wont be long till you are back and with great success, you are always well come here :)

For what it's worth.

Its' no use leaving the forum as you have experience that alot of people on the forum dont. eg the pitfalls of what happens when things go wrong or not working out. Which is something that especially the new startups should be aware of. Infact even those of us who have been established for years should also be able to take benefit from your experiences.

There is no reason to leave TN. You are a valuable resource and I am sure you have a lot to offer us. There is nothing wrong with reading what others post here. After all you might find something here that might help you in your current situation. Hopefully over time you will be able to get back into tech and open up your business again. In the mean time you can still contribute :)

Stay!!!!!!!!

You aren't getting charged for keeping the membership active and you've been a member for nearly 2 years. Also, obviously nobody is questioning or doubting your credentials so just letting it ride and not saying anything would have been sufficient. You are still a tech, albeit unemployed and inactive. There is nothing in the forum guidelines that says you must own a business. I suppose maybe you wanted to let folks know..?

Assuming he believes in God, that sounds nice.

I echo what everyone else is thinking. Giving up and feeling like you dont belong sounds like depression to me. While it is part of a normal cycle of being human, don't be negative, no matter what direction you choose to go in.

It looks like your website is down now. Feel free to hang around here and share your wisdom.

I know in my area unemployment is about 20% and there are a LOT of experienced IT proessionals looking for work. Many companies are targeting the younger people by stipulating in the job postings "recent college graduates only". I hope it gets better for you soon.

Seek a free financial/debt advisor. You probably need a car more than paying off some debt.

I live in California. Super awful. Sacramento used to be a big tech hub, and all those guys are out of work. So they're repairing PCs. Or "repairing" meaning "steal all the info and sell it to the mob". I actually plan to move to another state, probably Oregon.

My debt is of two types:

1) a loan in my mom's name, that she took out when I was working on my website business (pre-PC repair). Bankruptcy didn't wipe it out, because it doesn't have my name on it. I spent the money though. There is about $11k left (from a $20k loan in 2008). I want to pay this off, because obviously screwing over mom is not an option.

2) small student loan, from my time at MTI College getting trained as a tech. About $5k left. Student loans are non-dischargeable as we all know. I want to get it paid off.

It will take me about 2 years to get both loans paid. Then I will move elsewhere and start over. I may still visit here to keep up on the latest developments in the biz.

Thanks for the clarification bytebuster.

I agree about the loan your mother cosigned. Can't leave that on her. The government does grant a "vacation" from payments during times of low income and it does not harm your credit rating. You should be able to get that.

I hope you can recover soon.
