Now I have IBM G97 19" CRT and its BIG, to big for my table. When I bought it, it was less than half the price of 15" LCD, and I need a big display, especialy for CAD applications, but have a limited table depth space.
Now when LCD's are cheaper I was thinking of a new monitor, so I started to search. I found out that monitors larger than 20" are almost all widescreen. I don't mind that, but I wanted to know does anyone have experience with widescreen?
Also what should I also look for when buying an LCD, I'm little in the dark when it comes to the LCD's :(
Do I have to avoid certain brands, search for certain, or what?
I saw nice 22" widescreen but it's silver and I need a black one :)

Any help would be appreciated :o

Im not sure on the brand issue the widescreen I just don't like becuase well Im used to the standard :P but ultimately it is not an issue at all unless your app has some wierd support issues with those resolutions so check thier websites for that but if its fairly recent should be good as most laptops have been widescreen for a while now

LCD Widescreen

I love my 19" widescreen. Just keep in mind a 19" wide screen has about the same vertical size of a regular 17" LCD. It took me a little while to get used to it, but now I would hate to switch back.

As far as brands, I have a Samsung 17" and a HannsG that I have had no problems with them. As far as specs, make sure the brightness is over 250 and the contrast is over 500. If you play games or watch movies, make sure the response time is 8ms or less, preferably less. And the colors may be a little off if you use Photoshop or photo software. I have not had any problems color wise with mine.

Viewsonic VP are "professional" and VG is the "Graphics professional" series standards. I bought the viewsonic VP2130b and have been very happy so far with it.

get a samsung 19in widescreen.. The 940bw I believe. Its great, 4ms response time, 1440 native resolution (i believe), and sexy black.. its the brother to my 940b (not wide) monitor, and I just love it (and.. samsung is the only 1 to give a 3 yr warranty cus there awsome).

I have the same monitor on my 2 machines. the 940bw. I am very happy with them.

Does anyone else find the widescreen format for monitor's slightly annoying? I mostly do when it comes to if you want a dual monitor setup they take up so much more space. Im fine with them for single monitor setups but it seems the 4:3 ratio ones are fading away because of the new widescreen. I like that they offer the widescreen but I want them to really offer both becuase for work related things multiple monitors in 4:3 work better then a single 16:9. Home use I see where 16:9 is good since home is more about entertainment and entertainment gives more cuase for 16:9 widescreen.

I'm currently running a Chimea 22" Widescreen and love it. Havent come across any problems at all, or ghosting for that matter. Its black also

I would kill to get my hands on a nice widescreen moniter one day, but as far as the market price goes on them at the moment is still to be desired. For price performance in terms of running mulitple applications, a dual moniter setup is still a good choice. Widescreen is slowly replacing that concept threw the larger sized displays. We have to thank Dell, Apple and HP for their 30 inch behemoths. Only, just like HDTVs that are replacing the old SD ones, they are still overpriced leaving buget consumers to hold on their dollar before it's time to hop on the bandwagon.
