Laptop tape

What tape do you use for sticking LCD cables to the back of the panel? Scotch tape doesn't stay sticky long enough. I'm just wondering if you've found a commonly found replacement that is as strong and sticky yet still removable?

Duct tape (the fabric-backed kind) is really sticky, but it may be too thick. Packing tape is something else to consider; it's usually much stickier than Scotch tape.

Kapton tape. Usually 1/4" is a good all around size.

EDIT: Actually just measured my role, its 1/2". Don't know why I thought it was 1/4". Good thing I checked because I'm about due for another role.

I just use red electrical tape for that. It's strong, long lasting and best of all- non-damaging.

I've not found electrical tape to be any use long term. It seems to stick to itself well but on flat surfaces only lasts a month or two.

the stuff the laptop makers use is removable but stay stuck fast for years as far as I can tell.

No offense to anybody who doesn't know better, but I would never use anything but Kapton or green thermal tape on a laptop repair. If I opened a laptop and seen that a previous shop used scotch/masking/electrical/duct tape on a laptop repair, I would seriously question their professional integrity. Not to mention electrical tape turns to goo in high temps and that could be a real mess to clean off in the future. Kapton and thermal tape is made for high temps, is light and strong, and is non conductive. You can't say price is an issue either. I do plenty of laptops and use plenty of tape and have been working on the same role for over 2 years and if I remember correctly it cost about $5 bucks.

The stuff I use is actually for keeping wires put on a motherboard. I got a whole box of it from a PCB manufacturer my father recovered scrap metal from. I'd assume the stuff I'm using is safe for "High Temperature" use and "Electrical" use as well.

There is no brand though so I'd assume it's not by 3M since they brand their cardboard tube rolls with their logo. All I know is that this stuff works and the stuff is safe since the guy who sold us the stuff said it's safe to use on all electronic applications...I still have about 20 rolls which I would say is about a 3 year supply.
