So last night I was removing the LCD screen from an HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop. This was a very difficult task to tackle. Which is why I am starting this thread. Doing the above rise a few questions.

1. Is there such tool kits for this type of job?
2. Is there a website in which I can retrieve a service guide for specific laptops?
3. Which website do you guys order your parts from?
4. Do you have any tips?

A lot of members have posted about Podnutz. Here is a link to the laptop repair version of that.

I have never used them myself, but some of the users here on TN seemed to like them.

Maybe take it to a qualified repair tech. Do you repair computers for a living?

To be fair, laptop repair is a whole beast in and off itself. While I don't recommend learning on customer computers, the only really way to learn these types of skill is by doing them. I learned on a few old junked laptops myself.

Yes I do. I've been in the field for a while.

Sorry about that, I just couldn't tell from the questions you asked. I think the reply pointing you to the Podnutz site is a good place to start. He sells laptop repair videos. The are good, but you still will have MUCH to learn even after watching them. There is nothing that difficult about laptop screen repair, but there are many little gotcha's if you don't know them. I would recommend starting with an investment in those videos if you are serious about getting into laptop repair. Otherwise you will really be learning the hard way.

Laptop LCD replacements are probably one of the simpler jobs. Most cases it's just locating and removing screws (carefully..) and unplugging the thing.

Yup, Done 2 today, tools used were a small screwdriver and a plastic lever. took about 10-15 mins each.
Just be careful when prising the bezel off, as they can crack if not careful.
I always remove the screen to check the serial number before replacing it, and if the bezel does crack I order a new one at the same time.

99% are very easy but there is the odd difficult one. I use PCRT and in the notes I put the word bas***d when I get a bad job and I can then search for them before giving a quote :D

I order mine from laptopscreens.com they also have alot of videos on how to change out different models. The vids from podnutz are ok if you have the cash to spare they may be worth it, but you can also find the same thing on youtube.

I hope this means that you had to remove the base etc to get to the hinge covers, and not that there were 50 screws around the bezel!

No it's everything else including removing the screen unit. The bezel is about 6mm thick and hasn't got the clearance to be removed in situ.

Have to agree with. The resources are out there. Sometimes you just have to dig a little. As with any laptop repair if you have to force it check for another screw.
