Just re-installed Win10 from DVD and.....

Found that as I started to run WSUSOffline updates for it (64bit) that it temp disables screensaver & creates a temp. power scheme (so hopefully, it won't put the computer to sleep while it is running).

All I can say is "IT'S ABOUT TIME!" I never have understood why when a bunch of updates are being downloaded that some sort of temp feature would kick in to keep the computer alive.

Is not the current ISO. This is from and was made back when W10 was a freebie upgrade. I don't have a current ISO.

Why not? It is a free download. In the amount of time you took to get this going, I could have had 3 windows 10 systems running.

You'all know I'm not a fan of anything 8+ in Windows lineup so I was not aware of freebie downloads for W10. I intend to do something about this quite shortly, though!

If you do residential you better get used to the new OS. Read up on it and learn it inside and out. Its not going anywhere.

Yes, please get the latest ISO from the Media Creation Tool. Clean install yesterday on a new Samsung SSD had me up and running with full patches in about 20 minutes. Even then you should be good in under 30 minutes. One thing I can say that I love about the updates.

I got to sit down yesterday and check out the new features of the Anniversary update which I have yet to push on my field laptop. I can honestly say I really liked it. Even the UAC prompt isn't too bad.

But of course that will only last while they can get Win 7 downgrades on new machines.

I'm one of them. At least on blocking the forced update. Most of my clients don't want to learn anything new and while Win 10 has its benefits the aggravation isn't worth it for most of them. But if they buy new computers I'm not going to downgrade unless they insist on it or there is some incompatibility issue.

Well there are some business clients (like where my wife works) which have software which is not compatible with Windows 10. and I don't see their software providers working hard to make it agreeable with Windows 10.

I've often wondered why the company she works for hasn't gone with some Linux distro and stuck with that. At the moment her office has (believe it or not) some computers still running XP, 2000, 7 and now 10. What a mismatch. And their IT department is aware of all of this. But their hands are tied on which Lease computers they can get from year to year.

That is true in some cases. But in most cases it is it requires a NEW version that costs big bucks and they don't want or cant spend the money. Remember Quickbooks versions older than 2007 when Vista came out.

I've got a small business (earthmoving and construction) of 15 employees plus a field manager that want to upgrade to Windows 10. They are stuck on "training" for the staff.
They just don't want the hassle of teaching a new system to their staff.
I've tried to tell them that its not that stiff of a learning curve, even offering to give them a Win 10 laptop to play with temporarily.
Still not interested.

..and I bet you are an authorized M$ reseller or refurbisher?

Personally I quit installing from DVD a long time ago. I now do it via USB and most of my images are created using some sort of update integration tool - rt7Lite for windows 7 images, etc.. Yes it takes a little longer this way, but I have no problem with that. And since we aren't super busy (haven't been for years) and I only work part-time.....well I think you catch my drift.

I did work on 3 Okidata 9-pin printers this morning - just needed cleaning and lubrication as most do from this client. Oh and needed a print head but those are super easy to replace!

Now I feel old. I have worked on those, years ago. They had a plastic gear that was famous for grinding down. But it was like a buck to replace it. IIRC it was a couple of screws, about six tabs you had to pop and remove the paper advance knob and off the cover came and it was very easy to get to the rest of the gears.

Most everything on those Oki's are easy to get to / repair / replace / fix. It's just that in this cust's the rails that carriage ride on get dirty on the ends and the carriage doesn't want to home correctly. But you already knew that, didn't you?
