Another tip. Text edit defaults to iCloud for all new docs. You can remove that default by pasting

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool false
in terminal. Now it will sticky whatever location you choose. In my case I have a docs folder in ownCloud to hold all of this stuff.
 
You have so much real-estate on 27" that I can't remember last time I used the min/max buttons. use Spotlight (Command-Space) for everything, the "x" is Command-W and Command-Q is to quit the app. Setup multiple spaces and check off "Automatically rearrange spaces....".. I have 9 spaces and each one is specific for a task.. 1 & 2 are admin & emails, 3-4 research, 5-6 support, 7/8 is coding, 9 is photoshop/design-work. Shortcut to navigate spaces is Control-Right/Left-ArrowKeys. I use a chrome plugin "Tab Resize - split screen layouts" to organize my chrome tabs & screens.. Give it some time and you will love it. don't forget to replace your drive with a SSD if you don't have one already. :)
