Just got my NFR Sonicwall TZ-205 UTM with totalprotection suite..

Yep, I like them. That does seem like a really good deal too.

Only bummer is the subscription based services. I definitely get it for the Virus scanning, you want that to be up to date and its worth paying for the service.

Some of the other subscription based services seem like they should be a one-time payment or just free though.

You do know as resellers we get the software as NFR (free)... The renewal for your clients is about $300 plus dollars a year.

Annual subscription for UTMs is normal...should be expected, to maintain the required daily updates, and firmware updates, as well as support.

Businesses often have complex setups that require people to call in for support, and to have a good support program...it ain't free.

I've not experienced Dells support for their fairly newly acquired Sonicwall lineup, but I'm sure it's decent.

I did a quick Google this morning but didn't find an answer...I wonder what antivirus engine(s) is behind this. I know it says Sonicwalls engine...but I'm sure it's based on a major AV companies engine. Is there an option for a secondary engine? I thought I recall their units a few years ago having the base engine of McCrapee, and an option to get Kaspersky.

I wonder what additional anti adware/spyware/malware components are built into it.

Don't get me wrong- I totally agree with paying a subscription to something that must be updated such as Virus filtering.

Maybe I'm incorrect but the last sonicwall I looked at did not have the website URL blocking feature enabled, and you had to pay for the module to be added. That just seemed a bit unnecessary to me. I would think adding a URL blacklist would be relatively easy, and certainly would not require any "maintenance" on the part of the Sonicwall team.

Stone it looks like its kapersky AV for clients (additional charge)..

Not bad....but useless for me.
I love Kaspersky. Prefer it at the UTM appliance itself.
I also prefer a totally different brand AV on the servers and desktops.

UTM appliances that enforce the same brand AV at the workstations....not ideal setup IMO, I prefer different brands of AV products scanning along the pipeline to each workstation.

I signed up to be a re seller with both. I don't however do a lot of volume with Dell so I think this deal will apply to all of us.
Nice sweet, what part of the site did you order it? Yeah I was afraid you had to be a preferred partner with annual sales of 200k in order to qualify. I'm just a registered partner but I would like to get in on this deal. Can you point me in the right direction?

Agreed. Often, we would get cases created for "Missed virus!", simply because the signature wasn't added to the AVG database yet. Or they had the service but didn't enable it....

I've been utilizing the NFR licenses for our office TZ 205 for a while. I was not aware we could get NFR hardware as well. I may have to take advantage of that.

I compared my Sonicwall pricing through D&H and Dell. D&H is much cheaper to buy from. If you are a Dell and Sonicwall partner, make sure you tell them to inform D&H to receive additional discounts. My Dell pricing was not much below MSRP. My D&H pricing allows for around 24% margin using MSRP pricing.
