Had two calls this week where the June Office updates broke Outlook's ability to handle PDF attachments. The updates are:

Outlook 2007: - KB3191898
Outlook 2010: - KB3203467
Outlook 2013: - KB3191938
Outlook 2016: - KB3191932

Uninstalling, then hiding the update is a workaround until a fix is released. You can read about it here.

This is like 3 times in recent memory where we've had to uninstall a patch (or patches) because they broke something at a client's office. We do hold them about a week in our patch management for monitoring customers, but there isn't a good source to find out about the problems if they are (apparently) limited like this. I found out because of customers calling us. These were 6/17 patches, we released them on the evening of the 21st (ok, I guess that isn't a week) and got calls from two customers on the morning of the 22nd.

This time, at least, it has a minor effect - can't open attached PDFs by clicking on them in an email - it works if you save them out of the email and open them outside of Outlook. Last time, security patches to dot net completely paralyzed a LOB application at a busy title company client. That was ugly until we found out what the problem was. One onsite visit and about a half-a-dozen remote sessions narrowing it down. The first call is billable, the others, maybe not. I just makes us look bad, and it makes us gun-shy to release the damned things in the first place - "What's going to break now?"
