Iran and the whole revolution

No one here seems to have an opinion.

Except me :D (I can hear the gasps of surprise ;))

Actually, I don't think what's going on in Iran will have a huge effect on the US one way or the other. The Iranian power structure is such that the president is not very powerful. It is the people on the various appointed bodies i.e. the Expediency Council, Guardian Council etc. as well as the Supreme Leader (Ayatollah) who set foreign policy etc. These people have not changed their goals or opinions radically because of what's currently happening although there may end up being some shift if some slightly less radical elements within the power structure gain ascendancy. When I say slight difference, I do mean slight.

If the reformers are to take charge and hold it until the Ayatollah dies, THEN we could see some radical changes. Until then, not so much.

I find the question to be a very interesting one. If you don't want to read the thread then don't click on it.

I guess if Iran changed it’s way of doing business and the rest of the world starts doing legitimate business with them. The outsourced tech support will have a new very large pool of people to draw from. Just when I am getting to understand the accent of some of the other outsourced tech support.:(
My son already has three tours in Iraq and is now serving on the DMZ in Korea. What will be next?
Where is the real leadership in the United States of America? What have we done? Who is looking out for US besides Bill O’Riley? :)LoL

Easy there big guy. Two words.
Prozac dude.

I have always argued that by isolating regimes like NK, Cuba and Iran all we are doing is making their oppressive governments more powerful. It allows the rulers to point at the evil west and proclaim us as the devil while they plunder/destroy the riches of their own country.

I think free enterprise and open trade has a beneficial effect on relations with countries. If they're making money from trade with us they'd tend to avoid confrontation with us.

Well said - and don't forget to add Myanmar/Burma to that list. However, lauding the totalitarian regime in S. Arabia has done nothing to reduce their grip on power and may, in fact, be one of the major deciding factors on many people hating and wanting to destroy the USA. Policies are only useful when they're not obviously hypocritical.

You're kidding with the Bill O'Reilly thing -- right?

I think all this Internet Revolution stuff is fascinating. The internet is bringing these guys down.
On a side note.-------------------------------------------------

One of things I think is scary is... what if this happens in the US. This I see being a problem for the new generation.

Sometimes a bad idea can be formed under good intentions spreads so fast that people often react before thinking. I think the internet is the channel that can make Riots and problems like this happen in the future. We live in a world were people are not educated enough to know all aspects of something... But they know enough about something, to have some opinion or have a desire to react without thinking.

When our founding fathers (well in the US) were drafting a new form of Government they argued having a pure voting system where the people just voted and it was a pure democracy. They later tossed the Idea because they felt that the collective wisdom of the people was not as great as the collective wisdom of a chosen intellectual few. This is why we vote for officials that keep our interest at heart over voting on things at hand directly. "what the people think they want is not always best for the people"

If the people were directly involved in the decision making process directly, there would anarchy. We would vote YES for social programs... But vote NO on taxes. Marijuana and all drugs would probably be legalized. And just about every guilty pleasure would be legalized. Including driving 200 mph/kph on the freeways. Wars would not be fought and won and we would be a joke.

So how does this fit into IRAN and their government is being molded by the mass communication of the Internet. It seems like a good thing. Im just worried that as our country get dumber (the US) and education fails (in the US) will the internet usher in a new Rebellion were dummies want to change everything, freedom of speech, right to bear arms, etc etc. I dont want this the be the United Communist Idiots of America. Just because a bunch of radical idiots facebooked each other into war.

I know its far fetched but its something i think about.

I have to interject. The founding fathers designed a constitutional republic where power was distributed and each entity would guard against the bad ideas of the others.

Resentatives were supposed to express the will of the people. Senators were selected by the state governments (not the people) and were supposed to guard state's rights and reign in the Representatives. The President was elected by the electoral college (not the people) which was supposed to protect the smaller states against the tyranny of the larger states. The President was supposed to reign in the entire congress.

The constitution itself was supposed to act as a restriction on the power of the federal government. There were a small number of enumerated powers that the federal government was responsible for. Everything else was supposed to be the domain of the states or the people.

Most of these ideas were thrown out when Lincoln stopped the south from seceding through war and now this is what we're stuck with.

@ eric76 Yes, I was trying to make a joke with the Bill O' Riley comment.

I am just very confused right now with the direction my country appears to be taking. Everything that I learned as a child and practices as an adult appears to be a joke.
( Self Respect, Religion, Service to my Country, Taking Responsibility for my actions, and respect for others and all the other propaganda that was hammered into me while I was growing up. )
I served my country in the military and did my tours of duty in places that some people have never heard of. What was the purpose of serving and protecting the United States against the very things that some in our own country appear to be steering us towards. The digital generation has and will be a large factor in determining things in the future. I am from the generation between the "Greatest” and the “digital” and really fear that instead of thinking a bit before we react instead of instantly making a snap decision because it is the popular thing to do we will end up making some very serious mistakes that others will have to pay for. Instant digital communication is great if it does not removes the wisdom learned by waiting and thinking out the consequences of our actions out of the calculation when making decisions. “Click and Vote” Don’t worry, someone else will pick up the tab if you are wrong. Like I said, I a confused with things right now. I will continue to work for a living, pay my taxes, and try to be a good little American citizen. Perhaps I do need a dose of Prozac, or I could just keep my head in the sand and let the world go by without trying to voice my opinion. It has been said that “life is not a spectator sport” but if your connection to the real world is limited to TV, radio, cell, and all the Internet connections, then perhaps life is a spectator sport with a wide variety of little buttons just waiting to be clicked. What does all this crap mean? I have no clue, but you sure did waste a lot of your digital time reading it. Have a great weekend, and Happy Fathers Day! God Bless America.
:)

I was at the bank thinking about this very thread. Its a real concern to me and im glad others can somewhat see what im saying.

I love the computer. Im Largely uneducated and the PC has made me a very knowledgeable person. I think the term I was looking for earlier today was called. Herd Mentality this has been around as long has there has been people. But I think what I want to say the mass communication era makes this once psycological phenomena come to life in a big way. I mean look at Obama. (I love Obama so far) His internet presence was massive I mean HUGE. And look how many dummies showed up to polls voting because they saw him being glorified on the internet. A TV show interview Obama supporters on the street and asked them very BASIC questions about Obamas stance on abortion, taxes, race, his backround, etc and nobody knew. They just knew that Obama was the greatest.

This is some scary ****. Obama so far has been doing a decent job and hes seems to be making some progress. (In my Opinion) But what if some whacko like Palin got sensationalized in the same way. Would we be in trouble there is a lot of people (at the time) didnt know What palin was about. But LOVED every word she spoke. Im scared, our country needs to reeducate the youth on basic Government Philosophies.

I grew up on a farm in Indiana and people in that region love their politics. In school politics was a big deal. At 18 I moved to Southern California and I would say 90% of people dont know how many Senators are in congress, or what checks and balances are, or taxes and social programs work. Bill of Rights and 1st ten amendments. (people think social programs are a way of life here, and want to riot when something gets cut) This state is getting more fucked up by the second. There is already a congress women running for office saying. "California doesnt need to raise taxes or cut programs, we simply need to make Government more efficient" YEAH RIGHT MY ASS. Thats like a fat guy who says that to lose wieght he simply needs to excersise, NO ****! doesnt mean he will ever do it!!!!!!!. Efficiency requires money at first to be beneficial in the long haul!!!! But you wouldnt believe how many people cheer her on. I cant remember her name im sorry, or I would post a link.

Scary times indeed.

EDIT: if a socially reprisive power can be flipped around just by tweeter what about our country that anymore is seeming lose its backbone piece by piece.

Very scary scenarios being hypothesised here but we should never go with the rhetoric of populist regimes as that's how we end up with the troubling existence of places such as Iran,N.Korea etc and also the self nominated World Police. The interactions between these groups often cause the ensuing conflict ,unfortunately this usually ends up with the Might overruling the Right. Me? I thank God everyday I'm an Aussie with an Aussie outlook that does not include judging others on their right to have a belief system that mirrors our own.We do have a few social issues here, and they are to be condemned, but thankfully we don't go for all the so-called patriotic Flag-waving,god's-on-our-side,we're always right propaganda that inevitably comes to the fore in these Global differences of opinion. Having said that we ,as a nation, will ,and do,stand up for ourselves and will always go to the aid of our friends in times of need.We do this without all the fanfare and crap that only serves to prop up public support and to hide what is downright abhorrent behaviour,e.g. rule by terror, genocide, prisoner treatment and interrogation,etc.,etc...the list goes on.Before demanding another do as we insist, maybe we should take a long hard look in the mirror and question our own reasons and methods for this action. I'll no doubt get some differing opinions on this, but that's what a forum is about..different opinions, and this is all IMHO.

Well IMO, you can have Obama, I'll take McCain and Palin. I have no use for anyone who does not respect our flag or our men and women in uniform. I still do not think he should be our President, why is it so difficult to produce a birth certificate?
I agree that not a whole lot of the present generation know a lot if anything about our Bill of Rights, our Constitution, any of the Amendments, or anything about the Government in general. There is too much social passing to the next grade, and shoot if your a top notch athlete you really don't have to worry about it.
There is too much at stake here, and I really should stop this post as I really don't want to get on anyone's bad side. I could go on and on about things a feel strongly about but think I should close for now.
Maybe all of these countries should just stay on there own sovereign territory guard our own boarders, do not help "Our Friends and Allies" let us fend and provide for ourselves. No more immigrants if you don't like where you are at then do something positive to change it or just deal with it.
