As a computer reseller, are you allowed to intall Windows 7 OEM on new iMac and sell it to the end users as a whole package. I have been asked to purchase one iMac for a friend and install Windows 7 on it. I can buy OEM from wholesale very cheap comparing to retail version of Windows 7. The reason he asked to get windows 7 on iMac is he likes iMac hardware but prefers to use windows 7. Thank you.

Yeah, should be no problem provided the Windows OEM will load on the iMac. Safer bet would be the retail Windows though.

I don't think so. OEM licenses are of course a EULA nightmare and it's hard to get a definite from Microsoft but look at post #3 here:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=827339

but it seems even Microsoft don't really know (or their support people) as can be seen in their response on the last post here (which is actually about vmware fusion):

I think to play it safe you'd need retail license.

I've spoken with a few MS reps in regards to OEM licensing. I've always heard this response "You can sell OEM to anyone if they're a system builder. Currently, according to Microsoft's definition, anyone can be a system builder. Two things you need to tell every customer is that as a system builder they cannot come to you for support or microsoft for support, they're on their own."

There's not really much 'Building' when it comes to mac's though... Definitely a grey area, and I'd be inclined to go Retail just to be safe.

Plus, when mac brings out a new model that uses current technology, they'll probably want to upgrade anyway ;)

Will windows even work on an iMac? Not to steal the thread but I'm just curious if it is even possible to install windows operating systems on a Mac? I know it will work the other way although it is Illegal to do according to Apple.

I had two techs who were bored as hell and they created out of our IBM clone parts a half mac half clone. We call it the Pair. It is basically one brand and model motherboard, video, sound, nic, firewire, usb3, SataII IBM clone with both OS's on it.

It took a few hours to sort it all out, weeks to get the parts in, another day and a half to set it up an see how the software works together.

It is cheaper to do it that way then by a mac.
