How often do you attempt to repair a system due to viruses (or whatever) and finally come to the conclusion that Windows needs to be reinstalled after trying all of the tweeks and fixes? And in this case do you still charge extra for data backup?

if we spend more than 4 direct hours on a computer we talk to the client about Reloading the OS with a full backup(if they need it)

Reload is $100.00
Backup is a separate charge of $50.00

We used to include it in the $100.00 but a thorough backup can be quite time consuming, especially if you restore it to the original locations on the fresh install. Also, we scan and clean the backup before we putting it on the fresh reload, which also takes time.

And on top of that we sell them MalwareBytes Pro. We haven't had anyone say no yet.

Makes sense. Do they ever get upset about the data backup fee, perhaps claiming that you're not trying hard enough to fix the existing system?

Never, its all how you word it too. For example if the virus has ransacked the computer leaving holes throughout windows, and repairs are not fixing the issues. I tell them we did our job on removing the viruses from the computer, but the viruses have caused severe damage to the integrity of Windows, and it may be clean now, but it is not well off even after all the repairs we have done. For just $60.00 more we can make this computer back to the way you bought it and put your files back on there. It will be like brand new.

Because by that point the client is usually just as frustrated as you are with the machine and just want it to work.

And following that its a perfect time to sell Malwarebytes Pro, to help not let this happen again.

But yea, its all in how you relate the problem and the solution to the client.
