IBM R40e freeze at 'Preparing Boot Device List

after removing the CMOS battery for hours, my ThinkPad now has this problem.
It freeze at the 'Preparing Boot Device List'.

I was trying to get rid of the 'power on password' problem, earlier.
Help or advice appreciated.

Try holding the F8 key during boot, you will get a screen that allows you to choose Safe Mode. Are you getting any other error messages? Just for the heck of it...have you try reseating your memory modules?

thanks, appreaciated. Try pressing F8, nothing happened.

it hanged at the IBM logo after i switched on the laptop.
when i pressed F12, it go to 'Preparing Boot Device List' and hanged.

Btw, m not an IT person...will find out about 'reseating your memory modules''.
