HP Smart BROKEN as of 2/22/2021

Aside from HP smart being a terrible app and basically disabling scanning functionality now unless you setup a HP cloud account, it is now broken as of 2/22/2021.

Client calls me because the HP Smart utility is stuck either crashing or spinning and repeatedly going back to this screen.

It looks like the issue is widespread. I also have the issue on my own computer, so I can confirm the issue is widespread.

The only fix at the moment is to uninstall it and install "HP Scan and Capture" from the M$ store to use as an alternative.

Does anyone have any more information on this?

Can't speak directly to this, but HP SMART, IMO, has been broken for almost a year. I get tons of business "trying" to fix broken HP drivers and get the printer going again... SMART is always in the way and part of the problem. Half the time I recommend getting a new, non HP printer.

Its looking like it's linked to the disabling/removal of Flash from the OS. Even though HP was given adequate notice to address the issue they chose not to, and in a recent update MS has finally disabled flash thus crippling HP smart.

I agree, HP Smart (the software) is horrible and terrible.

It appears that the only way is a workaround by installing "HP Scan and Capture" from the MS store or use some sort of 3rd party scanning utility like HP Scan, or Windows Fax & Scan

HP Smart works fine for me. Just tried a scan, no problem. Mine is v122.2.834.0. Printer is Officejet Pro 9010.

I've had no customers call about it either.

The issue appears to be resolved as of today.

I usually set my customers up with Windows Fax and Scan that's built into Win10. Drop an icon on the Taskbar or desktop and show them where the scans end up in their Documents folder.
